My friend who works for Sony got the News earlier this week. They will work till the end of the year. They only keep 9 people for customer and technical services.
I'm calling BS on this one. The Sony facility in RB is the North American headquarters and is huge. Their TV business is very successful in North America as well, so I'm not buying it. Perhaps a division or group is laying off everyone, but not the whole site.
Total BS, in fact I just read in the Trib a couple days ago that Sony is MOVING their e-book staff from Japan to the Rancho Bernardo campus because the product is taking off much better in the USA then it is in Japan.

NOTE: It is true that Sony Ericsson just laid off most of their North Americas staff (and some in Europe), but I understand that is a totally different company from Sony.
Example: last week Sony Ericsson laid off about 450 in their Raleigh, NC R&D center.
Do you mean Sony, or Sony-Ericsson?
Does this affect the gaming group?
Sony, who is in the midst of constructing that HUGE building in RB, is laying off all but 9 people?
If that is the case, each employee will get an entire floor - at least!! Maybe two floors...
