Seeking 4-5BR rental house in west CV - ideas?User Forum Topic
Submitted by Fearful on April 20, 2008 - 10:05am
My lease is up for renewal in the end of June. I am not thrilled with the house, and am considering moving at that time, or negotiating for a shorter lease term to move later in the year. I'm looking for a house in the western end of Carmel Valley, 92130, including Torrey Hills, or Del Mar. Me, three kids, one lovable labrador retriever. Plenty of cash and can prepay the lease with the appropriate terms. Any of you kind and wise folks have ideas for finding such a rental house? The methods I know of are looking on Craigslist and looking on MLS, either directly or via a realtor; and asking around. I also found zilpy.com. Anything else? Of course, if anyone knows of a good house in the area, let me know. Thanks!

Craigslist is probably the best....try the reader online....www.sandiego.backpage.com. They have a few there as well...Also La Jolla Realty supposedly has a list which "unifies" all the independent lists out there, but I have never tried it or know if there is a fee ..Their # is 858 454-1534 and ask for the "drop in list"..
good luck.
Thanks! I'll check in with LJ realty and see what's up.
Fearful,
Can I ask you if you rent in CV right now, how much you're paying for rent for the above mentioned sized home?selfportrait

I'm in Torrey Hills; it's an unusual house in that it is 4BR but just 1700 sf. The development, Sausalito, has 4BR / 1700sf, 4BR / 1900 SF, and 5BR / 2100 SF. Location is perfect for the kids, as it is right across the street from the elementary school, but the floor plan is annoying and the interior quality is sad - all the builder minimum stuff, real crap. $2850.
Thanks Fearful for the info. I'm just trying to get a gauge for how much sfh are renting now in CV....I didn't know that 1700sft is $2850 now.
I was looking as some home that was being rented for $3500/month for 2700sqft approximately, and thought the person was kidding. But apparently it rented out.
BTW: Someone just closed escrow on a home above where you live near the park 2700sqft home. The price brings us back to early 2004 price. I didn't see this one personally. I think it was pretty basic. But considering some other person paid $200k more for nearly and identical unit (with considerable more upgrades) up the street just a few months ago, it's a good sign.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm overpaying. I mentioned there are 5BR 2100 sf in the development; one was just listed for $3050.
Also, the floor plan is a little anomalous. A 4BR for $2850 is not bad; 1700 sf for that price is not good.
It's easy to get as hung up on rental prices as with house prices, but rentals are nowhere near as big of a commitment.
