I got up early this morning to the stench of smoke. Opened my door and saw thick smoke and looked toward the hills and saw flames along the ridge line. This all made me recall the SD fires as I watched them from afar and then saw the aftermath when I went down there. The flames are probably 10 miles from my house, in the hills above it. There are a few neighborhoods between my house and they, and a highway, but they are close enough to see the flames. My stomcach churned, but I think they are burning in the other direction from the reports I read and the temp is going down, winds depleting, and it might rain on Sunday. Either way, that is the first time in the 8 years I have lived in that house that the hills nearby were ablaze. Very scary. |

Thinking good thoughts for those affected.
It's a bit unusual to have a fire now rather than last week when it was hotter and drier. Somehow it is hard for me to believe that it is a wildfire.
I read somewhere that it may have been caused by folks removing and burning trees on a property in the area. But I have also read other less believable possible causes. According to reports, it is 20% contained now. My wife can't see flames now, only smoke, but when I saw them it was dark so they were easier to see.
I hope the fire is put out today. It looks like the weather is cooperating. When I crested the hill near Mt. Woodson in 2003, and saw the entire valley in flames, it was terrifying. I hope you do not have a repeat of that fire. Good luck and take care.
