Firemen making $200K? And this is with a nice pension after 25 yrs of service. No wonder the state is bankrupt. You can search the salary with the search feature provided in the article.

Yeah that's about right, for RN's in Bay Area. Experienced ICU's nurses make even more. Why are S.D. salaries so much lower? Never mind, they call it the sunshine tax...

The American Soviet system is starting to reveal itself. Public employees earn the highest salaries and enjoy the best benefits, while private employees are told to "tough it out" in the "free market" as their jobs are sent overseas.

Yes If I were to advise a younger 20 or even early 30's , I would tell them to get a gov Job, they can go to college but afterwards unless they were to go into biz for themselves, working for the Gov is the way to go.
But also like I said before, it's not that they don't deserve it,

My wife works for the gov't. Jobs that are assigned to be completed in 4 months could easily be done in one month. Her coworkers would scold her for 'working' because that would take away the overtime. She works about 2 hours a day because if you try to work any more than that you will turn your coworkers against you and they can be very nasty. I will benefit too because she has 401K in addition to a very generous pension. However, I don't know if it lasts long enough or the gov't will go bankrupt before she could retires.

i know a guy who worked in one of the uc campuses. when he first started there he was talking to different people about improving this or change that. after awhile his boss pulled him aside and told him to be quiet.

I think the salaries compensate for the boredom of the work. In all seriousness, these high compensation packages are a product of strong unions and stupid leaders just kicking the can down the road.

You are totally right about the boredom. There was an opening for an Engineering position and I was the perfect fit. My wife's boss told me to apply because the hiring manager is his friend and I would have a very good chance of landing the job. I said no thanks. I rather be productive.
