OT-Going on the record about swine fluUser Forum Topic
Submitted by teatsonabull on August 25, 2009 - 8:16am
Is it just me, or do others feel that the whole "swine flu" thing is merely another wagging of the dog? I, for one, am firmly of the opinion that, one year from today, we will all be laughing at the dire predictions being made this summer: 60-120 million Americans will get it this fall and winter? Another 30 million will get it and not experience symptoms/not know it? Don't worry, I'll wash my hands and do what I can to prevent the spread of disease as I already do but, otherwise, I call bullshit on the whole thing! Does anyone remember April and May of 2009, for Christsake?!?! All the canceled trips and fears of flying?!? I look forward to re-visiting this topic next August 25. Hopefully, I am right and the swine flu hypsters are wrong. I suspect we will know much sooner than next summer;)

My coworker went home to the UK and contracted it. Nothing more than a nasty flu for a few days.
I agree.
Y2K, terrorism, etc... It's easier to control people when they live in fear -- fear of the flu, fear of terrorism, fear of immigrants...
Interesting that the government doesn't want people to fear buying a house or spending money.
We really need to put things in perspective, accept and live with everyday risks.
Watch out! Swine flue is coming! Better take your vaccine! Never mind that our buddies own the companies that make it.
Watch out! The terrorists are gonna get ya! Better learn to take off your shoes and belt at the airport!
Watch out! Global warming is going to kill us all! Better start paying your carbon taxes!
Watch out! You're gonna lose your health insurance! Better let us raise your taxes!
It is really getting tiresome. I am exhausted from it all.
CNN has got to find things to maintain the stress factor ya know. No stress and drama; no ad dollars. sick but true
ox
...media jaded
Well I really hope that you are right. At the moment I'm more afraid of the vaccine than the flu.
Scored a sweet deal to Cancun during the spring scare -- it was a ghost town and we were treated like kings!
FEAR!! PANIC!! ALERT!!!
Please proceed to you nearest vaccination center.
I agree about the vaccine. The testing time keeps being extended. Is there a problem?
No, just delusional government at its best. Swine flu broke in, what was it(?) late April(?), something like that. Only a politican could actually promise (and believe the promise) that we could identify the virus and its traits, identify a proper way to deliver the vaccine, and then mass produce it and have it safty tested and ready for delivery by September of the same year. Science and our production technology just doesnt move that fast.
As for the OP, virus's like this have shown a tendency to do really bad things the season after they are first detected. Please see the Spanish Flu outbreak. Shouldn't the gov try to educate people on healhy habits and treatment options BEFORE there is a problem? Arnt we always ragging on them for not getting ahead of the game when it would have really mattered, and then ragging on them when they missed the boat if they didn't do the right things in the beginning? I have seen alot more fear mongering from the media than the government personally. I think what you are seeing is a struggling media trying to sell newspapers or bump up ad revinue more than a governement selling doom and gloom to tax you more.
Agreed it's BS.
If it were really an emergency it would never drop off the news-radar. Seems like as soon as it came out that it isn't any more virulent/nasty/hard on people than regular flu (and often less so), the mange stream media dropped for the latest tragic-dead-little-girl story.
I'm not worrying about it. If I get it I will just hole up in my rented room and drink tea til I get over it.
It's absolutely fascinating, this frenzy that federal and local governments have been whipping the public into -- all for a virus that has killed only a fraction of those who die from the seasonal flu every year. And yet somehow, we are to believe that this particular strain - even if it mutates - will bring Armageddon upon us. Which leads me to wonder, why the sudden urgency to inject everyone?
I'm noticing that there is considerably more wariness and suspicion about this vaccine abroad than there is in this country. Perhaps that's because our media has done a fine job selling fear and *hope* in the form of a vaccine. But consider that up to 60% of doctors in the UK may refuse the vaccine and not recommend it to their patients.

In my mind, if a health professional is not willing to get injected with this crap, I shouldn't be so anxious to take it, either.
What is particularly worrisome to me is the fact that there will be virtually no clinical trials on this vaccine, it's being administered in two (2) separate doses (which raises my b.s. meter several notches), Novartis and the other manufacturers are beign given blanket immunity by governments, and it contains an adjuvant called squalene that has been linked to Gulf War Syndrome.

Do whatever your mind and spirit tells you, but I would most definitely think twice before getting jabbed.
I think the IRS jabs us enough. Maybe the quarantine camps will be at Camp Gitmo. I could use a vacation...
i am afraid, but swine flu isn't even in my top 100
I'm hearing so many conflicting stories in the news and elsewhere I'm not sure what to believe.
I will say one thing and that is getting the flu does suck!
My son caught swine flu in spring after going to a camp. He was in the hospital for a few hours for tests and observation. He recovered fully after about 4 days. We didn't use any medication beyond Tylenol and Ibuprofen. My shingles attack last year was infinitely more painful (more than one week of total misery).

Hey Partypup,
During the Spanish Flu, public meetings were canceled. That would change the political landscape. I guess we could go to on line meetings, but that would be easier to control. Trust no one, the truth is out there

A, I've been thinking along similar lines for quite a while. What better way to control the population prior to a collapse than to corral them at home? When banks begin failing en masse, and people lose most of their assets overnight, how easy will it be for them to riot if they are under mandatory quarantine?
The plot thickens. If they can't get one to market soon, they may be in for trouble as the word spreads about the safety of the vaccine. Also, getting people in for the second shot seems like it might be hard to do unless they just order parents to show up with their kids. What about all the homeless people and the illegals who camp out? How are they going to get shots? The whole thing sounds very unwieldy even for the big government folks. This should be a real test. I wonder if they are making PSA's as we speak? I read up a bit on the Spanish flu and it has been around for a long time. It has animal hosts, too. Will they be killing all the pigs and birds off any time soon? I do not think PETA will stand still for that.
I have been thinking for the first time that it really seems that TPTB are losing control of the situation. It seems pretty clear that they have a game plan, i.e. fleece the rest of the world and make off like bandits before anyone notices - but the implementation is becoming increasingly difficult, I sense. In the end, people are a lot less predictable than we would like to believe. I am frankly surprised by the push back that is happening with health care reform and the creeping fear of an untested vaccine.
We all know how this book began, but the final chapter has yet to be written...

Right on Concho. The way I feel for sure.

Not to beat this into the ground, but those of you with young children should know this about the swine flu vaccine being developed:
The most commonly used vaccine preservative is called Thimerosal. Here’s what the FDA has to say about it: “Thimerosal is a mercury-containing organic compound (an organomercurial). Since the 1930s, it has been widely used as a preservative in a number of biological and drug products, including many vaccines, to help prevent potentially life threatening contamination with harmful microbes. Over the past several years, because of an increasing awareness of the theoretical potential for neurotoxicity of even low levels of organomercurials and because of the increased number of thimerosal-containing vaccines that had been added to the infant immunization schedule, concerns about the use of thimerosal in vaccines and other products have been raised. Indeed, because of these concerns, the Food and Drug Administration has worked with, and continues to work with, vaccine manufacturers to reduce or eliminate thimerosal from vaccines. Thimerosal has been removed from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine.”
In other words, ‘we know it’s dangerous; So dangerous that we are trying to reduce it or remove it completely from vaccines. But we’re going to go ahead and put it in flu vaccine.’ And of course that includes the swine flu vaccine. And it is in there, I read the label.
Thimerosal is nearly 50% mercury. Now, there is mercury and then there is mercury. Organic mercury – that contained in Thimerosal – is more dangerous than inorganic mercury, as it tends to hang around in the body longer. How dangerous is it?
According to one report, “In 1977, a Russian study found that adults exposed to ethylmercury, the form of mercury in thimerosal, suffered brain damage years later. Studies on thimerosal poisoning also describe tubular necrosis and nervous system injury, including obtundation, coma and death. As a result of these findings, Russia banned thimerosal from children's vaccines in 1980. Denmark, Austria, Japan, Great Britain and all the Scandinavian countries have also banned the preservative.”
So, basically, we have a vaccine that may not be needed, that was manufactured in a such a hurry by mega-corporations that the government has exempted them from liability, that hasn’t been adequately tested, and that contains a known poison.
What could possibly go wrong?

my understanding of the mercury used to preserve shots:
- 200 parts per billion mercury in the shot
- the regulatory agency responsible (FDA?) says that the mercury is OK for the human body
- the EPA, which regulates toxic substances, says that anything containing more than 50 parts per billion is a TOXIC SUBSTANCE
so, one govt agency says mercury preserved shots are A-OK while another govt agency classifies the level of mercury in the shots as being 4 TIMES the threshold for toxicity
make your own decisions folks
I am concerned enough about mercury in my body that I had all the amalgam fillings removed from my teeth - to think I would accept toxic levels of the substance into my body via a shot is laughable
~
if you are concerned about remaining healthy this fall consider vitamin D-3 - I am reading that 4 to 5000 iu/day will be better protection than any vaccine the pharma companies want to inject into our bodies
I read the same thing about Vitamin D3. I think the mercury issue is important, but it is even more so for young children, who were rarely vaccinated in the past for flu, but that has changed. I can see why so many countries have discontinued its use. People need to do their due diligence to protect their children. The people who brought you Katrina are the ones in charge of the vaccine. What could possibly go wrong?
WHO Warns Of Severe Form Of Swine Flu

The above comments on swine flu at the University of Alabama begin to describe the extent of pandemic H1N1 (swine flu) at schools throughout the United States, with similar issues throughout the northern hemisphere. The students and parents are experiencing "sticker shock" when they realize that swine flu is widespread and spreading rapidly (see map), leading to 10-20% absenteeism, even though agency reports and media stories have largely disappeared over the summer. Although there were reports of outbreaks at summer camps, most assumed these were isolated incidents. The CDC had ceased reporting cases in daily or weekly updates. Instead on August 5 they switched to national aggregate numbers for hospitalized and fatal cases. State agencies followed suit. Many even stopped reporting fatal cases, and instead linked to aggregated CDC numberss. This information dearth led to a dramatic reduction in media coverage, leading to the widespread belief that swine flu had largely "disappeared".
Ugh, I don't want to be an alarmist but all this stuff is making too much sense. What the hell is the chosen one doing to this country?
They are going to keep people in their homes because of a supposed "pandemic" outbreak in the fall. They are also trying to push a bill through that will give the president the ability to basically SHUT OFF THE INTERNET:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-103200...
So basically it seems to me they don't want people to get together in large groups and also will cut off the biggest form of communication today by disabling the Internet when they want to.
What the hell is going on? My parents fled to this country 29 years ago to stay away from the communists that invaded our country, now it looks like the U.S.A is a far worse place to be than Russia. I'm sick.

I'm sick, as well. I encourage you to visit the many threads last year discussing Obama, who he really was and what he would do this country if elected. Allan, Arraya, Aecetia, Veritas and I were the lone voices in the wilderness. None of what is happening - especially the potential internet shut down - surprises me in the least. I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Obama was appointed to finish the job that Bush began, with new branding.
I actually have wealthy friends calling and emailing now, making serious plans to leave the country. I think it's time to take down the Statue of Liberty. Traffic, it be going da other way soon.
And yes, this will be worse than Russia. Russia is a homogenous country with a population with fewer entitlements and lower expectations for their standard of living. It's going to take a much heavier hand, I fear, to clamp down on people who remember when they were once prosperous and believe they are still free.
I remember reading many of those threads and seeing you all called names for not jumping on the band wagon. McCain and Palin were savaged and it was amazing the lack of critical thinking when it came to examining his credentials. At least now a lot of people seem to be waking up to who he really is and the threat to our basic liberties he and his advisers represent. I am sick, but I will continue to speak boldly about these issues until I am silenced. It is my duty.
All of the single-dose syringes of the vaccine will be preservative (thimerosal) free. Part of the delay in the manufacturing process has come from limits on how many of these single-dose vaccines they can quickly produce. Some of the multi-dose vials will contain thimerosal and some won't. Especially for children and pregnant women, I would insist on the thimerosal-free vaccine.
At this time, they aren't using squalene or any other adjuvants, but that could change and would be something to be concerned about.
The public health bureaucrats/shills for Pharma are always saying vaccines are a risk vs. benefit calculation. Of course, many people have probably already had the Swine Flu this year (I'm pretty sure I caught it visiting San Diego this past Spring) but there is no quick, affordable test widely available so that people can know whether they already have antibodies to H1N1 so that they can factor that in to their vaccine risk/benefit calculation. This makes even less sense when you consider there may be a shortage of vaccine and it should only go to people who would most benefit.
I have a daughter (she also may have already had the H1N1 flu) who is chronically ill with an autoimmune disorder so it makes that risk vs. benefits assessment that much more difficult. I am just beyond disgusted that they haven't bothered to develop a good, cost-effective antibody test.
Also, to be on the safe side, if you know anyone who is thinking of becoming pregnant this year, I would caution them against it. Some studies have shown associations between maternal flu during pregnancy and problems in the child such as autism and schizophrenia.
They are just now beginning the clinical trials into the safety of the Swine Flu Vaccine in pregnant women and by the time they finish the trials, it will likely be too late for the vaccine to offer much protection. Not to mention, I don't have a lot of faith in their ability to determine what is a truly safe vaccine, especially for pregnant women and children.
