Is there a light at the end of the tunnel regarding oil prices?
I would hate to trade in my gas guzzler but $100+ fillups are putting thoughts of driving an old civic or prius in my mind.
How many have traded in their guzzlers for a "green" car?
92106: The in-laws, who are visiting from Texas, just purchased a Camry hybrid in San Antonio. The dealer added a $10,000 "dealer premium" to the sticker and explained that Toyota is adding dealer premiums to their Camry and Prius lines.
Not really apropos of anything, but I found it interesting.
No such thing as toyota adding dealer premiums. Dealer premiums are added by dealers to try to ream more money out of consumers. In fact some dealers in CA it was reported are selling prius below msrp now.

The incentives are plenty but I never buy new cars anyways.
Also in a land of 1 ton suv's, do I really want my wife and kids driving a compact fuel sipper?
I convinced one of my friend to buy an acura mdx. They're doing roughly $8k of msrp ($2k of invoice). The last generaton's model resale has plumetted, partly due to SUV sales AND because of the model redesign. My wife + 2 infant sits in one, and can get about 20mpg out of it both city and highway combined. If you want something not as luxurious but functionally the same, Honda Pilot (although I'm not a fan of the recent boxy styling).
If you feel you must get an SUV, you can also try to get a hold of the Ford Escape hybrid and Saturn Vue Greenline roughly 32 mpg respectively. Neighbor has one, and says great things about it (Escape H)
Toyota charges an arm and leg for hybrids the Prius and Highlander, and frankly it's not really cost effective, especially the Highlander. I've never been a fan of the Lexus 400h hybrid, or any of the Lexus SUV err, rebadged toyota highlander, with a huge markup.
Just purchased a 2009 4 cyl Camry SE this weekend! There were very few people at the Nissan and Toyota dealerships we visited. They're definitely having a hard time selling cars.
My 2000 Silverado single-cab short-bed is on the market if any of you Piggs need a good truck!!! It's a V6 so the gas mileage is not too bad.
BTW, back in the early 70's, Mopar, as usual, was behind the times and produced a "Superbird" - huge motor, big fin to keep in on the track - basically the General Lee on steroids.
The oil crunch killed the car and Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler basically gave them away.
They sell for around $500,000 now. Makes me wonder about the new Challenger.

That dealer lied.

It's a great time to shop for a Suburban!
Just drive slow and you will save some gas. The savings in gas may not exceed the hit you will take swapping cars.
