OT: The Mikey Show is no longer on 94/9User Forum Topic
Submitted by poorgradstudent on March 8, 2012 - 10:22am
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/blogs/sounddi... I vaguely remember some discussion around here when 94/9 decided to stray from their "It's about the Music" slogan and start up a morning show. This morning that experiment ended, and The Mikey Show is no longer on 94.9. I have mixed feelings, since while I prefer knowing music is on the air and available, I tend to mostly listen to NPR or my own music. I wasn't a fan of The Mikey Show per say, but in my channel flipping they'd occasionally be doing something funny. I'm curious to see what 94.9 will fill the slot with.

It's a good day in radio.
At first I was ambivalent toward Mikey, but then he did a bong hit on the air way back in his 105.3 days, and was forced to apologize. The apology was obviously written for him - he mispronounced several easy words, and for some reason that bugged me enough that I've been avoiding him ever since. I'm okay with people making significantly more money than me if they're smarter and/or funnier than I am, otherwise, not.
DSC are consumed with their own lives and think we are too, so they're no fun anymore. Something happens when you surpass a certain salary in the morning show world, and you start to believe that people are interested in you as a person, when really they just want to laugh.
That leaves Bill Handel, who would endorse Hitler himself for a roll of pennies, and his sidekick Rich Marotta, who is the single most ignorant person I've ever heard on the radio (blissfully unaware that over 200,000 people died in a tsunami in 2004, for one small example). If they'd just hand the show over to Gary and Todd, then they'd have something.
What's a commuter to do?
