every year (except one) the last 5 years we jump in a freezing pool at the stroke of midnight on new years.

tonight we did it again.

excitement still got very very high, feverish about 20 minutes prior. did pre jump calisthenics, we were all running around, screaming, looking deeply into one anothers eyes and howling. started a fire ina 55 gallon drum.

FEAR.

EXCITEMENT

my little one was frightened before the jump. the pool was dark--no lights.

yet we were all 100% committed. it was certain. we were all plunging.

no ifs and or buts....

and the countdown off the iphone. screaming at pool side!!!

jumping in an icy pool truly clears the head of every single thought.

it is enlightenment

you have no idea where youa re.

it's like dying and being reborn.

it's icy blue blast to oblivion!

it's truly alarming and disorienting.

so exhiliarated afterwards....

my little one swore to me he would jump in a pool with me every new years for the rest of my life.

and with his kids...until i was dead

i swore i would jump in a pool ice cold at midnight till i die every midnight new years eve...

the sacred oath of the annual plunge into the iciest pool.
