Hi Piggs,

I am a long time reader but seldom post on this fun filled RE blog/site. Can anyone recommend a private/public pre-school in Poway? In general, I know Poway is an excellent school district but I don't know if it offers pre-school (before kindergarten). Thanks in advance for the info.

I am in RP, don't know much about private programs. For public, I believe they are run by private also. If you plan to put your kids there full time, the price will be almost $900. It is indeed comparable to most of the private ones. For part time, it is a joke. They have programs on MWF or TTh, but the time is limited from 8:30 to noon. It is kind of pricey considering the time they really spend on your kid and the inconvenience that you have to take your kid there in the morning and come get your kid at noon. If you are working, it is not worth it. In addition, you may have to participate in the activity and you have to take some courses prior to that. To me, I do not understand why they even have the part-time program. That is for me, both me and my wife are working couples so I prefer something that is part-week for the whole day, but not part-time many different days. If you are a stay-home parent, you can stay with your kid till they are ready for kindergarten.

I believe that the Poway Schools offer a PEPP program at some of it's elementary schools. Here's a link: http://www.powayusd.com/teaching/sss/pep...

There are lots of options for the younger kids as well, depending on your needs. Most of the "pre-schools" are half day and they're generally run through churches. Penasquitos Christian, Mt. Olive, St. Bart's, Rancho Bernardo Pres, North County Pres all offer great programs.

As for schools without a religious affiliation and/or full-day programs, I know that people like Teddy Bear Treehouse and the place just at the bottom of the hill on Pomerado, just before the intersection with Scripps Poway Pkwy (can't think of the name...).

Good luck.

Thanks to all for the inputs. I will look into those for fall 09 semester. I prefer school without religion affiliation and concentration more toward academic.

you may want to try google search - montessori schools in san diego. The closest ones are Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa KHM, which has good feedback.

PUSD offers preschool programs in many elementary schools and high schools.

I really like the Montessori system. If you're not familiar with them, it would be a good idea to check one out. IMHO, this is a great model.

I know it sounds funny but I prefer schools concentrate on academic then religion.
