As a follow-up to this

We have this

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26548482/

meaning

An estimated 40 million people watched, which is:

- a tie for most-ever TV viewers of a political convention
- more TV viewers than the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony
- more than the Academy Awards this year
- more than the American Idol finale this year

(four football playoff games and the superbowl had more than 40 mil, though)

We have ourselves a real horse race!!

Does anyone know about that poor family that McCain talked about (in his acceptance speech) that lost their real estate investments? What were they doing gambling on real estate?

Somebody please blog about the investments they lost.

"I fight for Bill and Sue Nebe from Farmington Hills, Michigan, who lost their real estate investments in the bad housing market. Bill got a temporary job after he was out of work for seven months. Sue works three jobs to help pay the bills."

As an Obama supporter, I was thrilled to see the number of people who tuned in to view Sarah Palin's angry, divisive speech.

Independents and people who are tired of red state/blue state division are not going to embrace this.

Isn't it high time that instead of focusing on our differences, we find what binds us together, so that we can begin to address the huge issues that the country faces?

Come on people, we're Americans before we're Republicans or Democrats.

I'm sure that an enterprising blogger in MI will find out exactly what real estate investments Bill and Sue Nebe owned.

I'm disappointed with the Republicans. They didn't vet their VP candidate. They are getting sloppy.

I can't imagine a middle-middle class family from MI owning real estate investments other than a primary residence and a little vacation cabin.

So is McCain talking about bailing out the irresponsible?

Let's see what they mean by family values:

1) Out of wedlock teenage sex.
2) Teenage pregnancy.
3) Dr. Phil type divorce.
4) Gambling on real estate.

Yeah, we need to fight for those values.

Apparently Bill and Sue Nebe are realtors:

That's pretty rich.

Now we need OCrenter do a feature story.

Perhaps on Sunday, a network anchor will ask McCain how he plans to fight for the FB Realtors.

It's interesting how McCain's speech was devoid of policy, but he found room to mention those real estate gamblers.

I heard as much policy in McCain's speech as Obama's speech. Both states the general idea of what the want to do but neither state specifics. I rather he say he'll "fight" for these people than him going straight out and say he wants more bailouts, which Obama specifically said.

It gets better.

No sure how the social conservatives can support Palin when that family represents the vices of America, namely sex and alcohol.

Oh come on. Obama wrote in his book about his drug abuse. What's this "holier then thou" BS anyway?

Palin has an approval rating of 80% in AK, which is pretty extraordinary. Nationwide people like her better then Obama, Biden or McCain.

I hold moral conservatives to higher standards because, according to them, vice would decline under their leadership.

But as it turns out, vice is rampant in the bible belts and in religious families.

It's normal for liberals to experiment with drugs and alcohol when they are young. They are more permissive; so I don't see it as a big deal.

I never heard any republican say that "vice" would decline under their leadership. As far as the bible belt goes it was all Democratic until the late 60's.

You are admitting to holding people to different standards. That is about as unfair as you can get.

Humm, what would be the point of electing social conservatives if moral standards don't improve under their leadership?

Why not have liberals and "enjoy" the vices in the open? Why elect social conservatives and have to feel guilty about our vices?

I think that's what is puzzling Europeans. Americans are the leaders in sex, drugs, alcohol, pornography but we have to do it all in hiding. That's no fun!!!

John,

Gov Palin has 90% approval rate cause she signed the largest tax increase in history (her colleagues took her raise and increased it even more!) on the super hard working and successful oil companies and gave all residents 1200 rebate. My only question is why isn't isn't 100%?
May actually decrease federal taxes for the companies because they get larger state tax deduction. Dems, rebs, you all just keep raising taxes on the other guy.

I am not a Palin fan. But Please enlighten me, what did she do again? I understand her 17 year old daughter did something stupid, and changed her life forever. But again I ask, what did Governor Palin do again?

Are we really holding people personally responsible for their 17 year old kids actions now? Cause there would be alot of parents going to jail if we did that.

Submitted by patientlywaiting on September 7, 2008 - 12:44am.

In my book, parents are accountable for the actions of their minor children.

Where is the shame? Where are the "traditional" family values? Shouldn't Bristol be sent off to a convent some place so she can reflect on her sins and repent?

Like I said before, if vices and lax moral behavior occur no matter what because humans will be humans; then what's the point of voting for social conservatives.

We might as well vote social liberal, air out all our dirty laundry and enjoy our weaknesses. Isn't that what the Palin family is doing?

Why hide behind a Victorian facade of propriety and pretend upstanding family values?

"On the pinhead front, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The sister of Britney says she is shocked. I bet.
Now most teens are pinheads in some ways. But here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl, who obviously have little control over her or even over Britney Spears. Look at the way she behaves."

The blame falls on the parents?
