An estimated 40 million people watched, which is:

- more TV viewers than any political convention ever
- more TV viewers than the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony
- more than the Academy Awards this year
- more than the American Idol finale this year

(four football playoff games and the superbowl had more than 40 mil, though)

Regardless of which way you lean, everyone has to admit that the debates will be a complete orgasm for political junkies like ourselves. I'm curious how Biden will handle Palin. He needs to come out swinging but he can't appear like a bully. On the other hand, if he makes her cry, imagine what Putin would do to her. So what does everyone think? Does Biden rip her a new one or does he handle her with hockey-mom gloves?

It will remain to be seen who makes who cry. I think you are underestimating this woman tremendously.

I'm going to get alot of chuckles out of the next few months, listening to Obama and the left wing press talk about how little experience Palin has to be second in command while they conveniently ignore the largest example of affirmative action ever in the meritless top of the ticket on the left wing.

At least Palin actually has some executive experience, something that neither Obama nor Biden has.

Your spin is is impressive, but unfortunately for you, the only thing the Palin pick does is dilute the right's attacks against Obama's experience, which was pretty much the only thing they had going for them. Your jujutsu has backfired.

This is such BS. No president (except, maybe, the current one) makes decisions by himself or herself. They rely on their staff, advisors, and Cabinet members to make decisions. "Executive experience" is overrated and is not required for the job.

The notion that Palin is more qualified than Obama or especially, Biden, because she was the governor of podunk Alaska is laughable, at best.

I don't know why so many people keep referring to the concept of "affirmative action" here. That has nothing to do with it. The guy is well educated, has shown pretty good judgement regarding the war, and is one of the best political speakers out there. Given the current environment, I would say timing was on his side too. It seems like the American people are so sick of the current regime, that they are willing to look at some fresh new person, even if they are underqualified. No one stepped aside or GAVE it to him because he was part black. He fought a long hard primary and beat the competition. The people came out in record numbers to vote & he is the person with the most votes. That is not affirmative action, that is democracy.

btw, I have not voted for the guy & there is a good chance I will not vote for him in the general, but I think it's lame to keep dismissing him like that.

Palin vs Obama in experience really seems like a wash. A couple years as the governor of a state w/ <700k people does not make her any more qualified for president.

Affirmative action is getting a job that you are not qualified to fill for the simple fact that you are not a white male.

Obama has gotten the nomination because:

1) He's not Bush
2) He's not Hillary
3) He's black
4) He sounds like the candy man in every one of his speeches.

His nomination has nothing to do with his experience or DEMONSTRATED ability to lead anything. He has none.

Either...

1) You can back up your statements here. You've seen an exit survey from voters saying they voted for Obama for the reasons you mentioned above.

2) You're full of crap.
