OT - New Years Eve SuggestionsUser Forum Topic
Submitted by cabal on December 17, 2009 - 11:17pm
What does the typical Pigg do on New Years Eve? Currently, we have no firm plans. The last few years, we’ve attended small parties at friends house, but this year we prefer to go out on the town and do something different. Wife would like to go dancing at a minimum. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tell her to get out in that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans.
LOL! Nice comeback. :)

Sorry I can't help with any ideas.
We're married with kids, so haven't the faintest idea where one could go dancing these days (does dancing in front of the computer while watching old YouTube clips count?).
Priceline...Palm Desert. Dinner at LG's.
Party with other families and let the kids stay up until 9 p.m. to celebrate New Years on East Coast time. Drink alot. Go to bed early.
Don't know what the finances are like for you guys, but one year we went to Disneyland and stayed at the hotel. There is no alcohol on the park, so don't have to deal w/drunk idiots. It wasn't crowded. Got to see fireworks. The next day, woke up and drove home. Great idea if you have kids, too. It's a nice way to end the year and not be in a bar. But it's not the cheapest idea.
Our anniversary is 1/1... so we tend to celebrate new years with a bit of sentimental zing. That said - most years it's at home with friends/family/kids and we ring in the 9pm (12 ET)... Two times we've ditched the kids with family and spent the night downtown - enjoying nice dinners followed by blues at Patricks. (I love that place... not fancy, but GREAT music.)
This year, since it's our 10th, we're going large. We'll be in NYC.
OMG CAR, that made me laugh so hard! I'm the queen of dancing with my kids to YouTube music, LOL!
We go camping over NY's.
UCGal - I'm jealous! NYC for NYE is so much fun. Wish I were going. Congrats on 10 years!
Hey if it weren't me - I'd be jealous of me. LOL
We’ve attended the family/friend New Years get together theme more times than I care to remember. Yes it’s always a good time, but this year we want to be by ourselves and prowl the city, similar to how it was when we were in our twenties with not a care in the world. Our kids are older, self sufficient, and will be doing their own thing. So to reiterate, where are the best places for fortysomething folks to go dancing in San Diego? Cost and music type are non issues. Does anyone have a suggestion because I don’t have a friggin clue.
We've been going to a private party for the last few NYE...ranch house in the middle of an avocado grove, about 50 couples...everyone parks in the grove....they serve dinner...the LR is cleared to the wood floor and everyone dances the rest of the night. Very very fun.
There are other places that are fun...the Gaslamp will be p-a-c-k-e-d of course but the basement of The Bitter End is one big dance floor and we always have a good time there. At midnight you can go upstairs to toast with everyone at the bar. There is also Jimmy Love's down the street...they have a live band there.
If you aren't afraid of people with alternate lifestyles you could always try a place like Urban Moe's in Hillcrest...another favorite of ours...nice dance floor though there is a lot of line dancing goin on sometimes. There is also The Flame down the street and around the corner...haven't been there in awhile but it is more lesbian oriented and usually quieter. The wildest place used to be called Club Hedonism though I think it has changed names...used to have go-go dancers on the bar and a unisex bathroom (not by design, by use!).
Lastly, if you're in North County there are three dance places you can try: The Alley in Carlsbad (live band playing 70s and 80s, crowd is 20s to 50s), Acapulco in San Marcos (DJ, heaving Hispanic HipHop tilt to crowd and music), or Carver's in RB (crowd is late 30s to late 50s, live band plays mostly 70s fairly mellow stuff.
Pick your poison. They are all fun...
I'm fortysomething and I will be going to this place:

I'd suggest Anthology in Little Italy. Great club with fabulous music and good food. They're doing two seatings on NYE - one at 5pm and one at 9:30pm. Go to their website, www.anthologysd.com, to hear the music that the band will be playing. Have fun!
Wow, thanks for posting that Carli...while I was perusing the site, I noticed Squirrel Nut Zippers are playing on the 2nd! Whipped out my cc and now we have tix...
