I have a project car in storage that I need to finish in one month. I need to have a few panels sprayed, painted.

Anyone have a "hole in the wall" type body shop that they've used and have been reasonably happy with?

If so, can you share?
The one small proprietor I use to go to moved his shop out of the area.

Please no b.s. posts about going to mexico or theories about how one body shop is better than another if you haven't actually used the shop. real recommendation with real data please... Or..if you have a hole is the wall body shop that you would strongly advise against, let me know too.

By "hole in the wall", I mean a small shop that does good work (ideally sole owner/bodyshop person) but doesn't have the extensive overhead that most bodyshops with multi-bay,nice customer lounge, multi-receptionists, multi-estimators do...

I think Hawley's Auto Body might fit the bill. They're on Lytton near Rosecrans, not far from Liberty Station.

I have a Class B RV (ie a fancy camper van) that's about 12 years old and it's showing its age. Rust had started to form where some of the body panels had been welded. I just wanted to get it fixed up to prevent the rust from spreading. I explained this wasn't an insurance job, I wasn't fixing it to sell it, and I wasn't in any particular hurry. The owner understood all this, gave me a good estimate, and they did a good job. I would definitely go back there again.

We used Carmel Valley Collision on Sorrento Valley Rd three times in the past 3 years (yep, we have a teenage driver who did damage twice, and then another, unrelated, teenage driver scraped one of our cars in a parking lot). We've been very happy with their prices and quality of work. Small, un-fancy shop run by a guy who definitely takes pride in his work. http://www.carmelvalleycollision.com/

I'll check them out. I'm a little leery because they are in Sorrento Valley, which means that their rent and probably cost will be more than some shops in dumpy places.

Not sure if they're any good anymore... but years ago Terry's Autobody in Oceanside was good. They were known for doing great painting.
