It's amazing how destructive the Bush's are. The Misery Index (the sum of the unemployment and inflation rates) is as high as it's been since Bush I.

It's just unbelievable how incompetent and detrimental Bush I and Bush II have been. I pray that our country makes it to see Barack as president.

Barack as president? Oh, hell yeah!

And yes, the pain with Bush II is neverending.

10.5 is actually good; Whoever wins, the index will at least touch 12 during 2009-2012, I think. We haven't even seen a dozen banks blow up yet. During S&L crisis , hundreds of banks went down.

Carter still holds the record- 21.98:
"Jimmy Carter may have won his first election in part by campaigning on the "misery index". But when he assumed the Presidency he enacted policies that had disastrous economic effects on our nation. When he left office, America was in far worse shape. The "misery index" reached an all-time high of 21.98 % and Ronald Reagan was swept into office in the wake of widespread voter revulsion towards Jimmy Carter."

Many observers see Barak Obama as another Jimmy Carter, and the parallels are remarkably strong. Both are (were) outsiders, untested, lean left, promise a fresh face, plan to shake up the status quo, inexperienced internationally and want government to be more activist.
By some measures, Carter was one of the worst presidents ever. His liberalism at home and abroad actually so turned people off that he ushered in Reagan conservatism.
Today many true conservatives, as opposed to Republicans, actually see merit in four disastrous years of Obama, as it would revive true conservatism.
