Ot: It doesn't get better than this...User Forum Topic
Submitted by squat300 on June 10, 2012 - 8:39pm
For all the future fears and planning, the reality is it's probably not going to be getting any better than it is right now, or in other words this is as good as it gets, or as I like to say when people say how are you doing, I think this may be the best I've ever been in my entire life, which sounds Almost shocking, at least with the burst of enthusiasm I sometimes project, and undeniably cheerier than it's all downhill from here. What an awesome weekend. We had a music recital and a bunch of kids friends came and played some music. Lifted some heavy weight, ate some food, spent about what I earned, felt a little sick Saturday night, better Sunday, saw some mariachi guys we are fixing to hire. I mean really, is the future going to be in any way comparable to the amazing present? A present where you are the youngest you're ever going to be for the remainder of your existence? True your squat may jump but your life is pretty cool just now.

scaredy, umm please pass the spliff this way....
No artificial anything, this is all spun off Internally homebrewed neurotransmitter activity.
The past was ok , the future is overrated, the present is terrifyingly brilliant.
I don't want to be old and a bummer. I think I'm going to try to be more like Jack lalanne.
Scaredy,
Do you think this exuberance is in part due to the fact that you managed to buy a house that is better than you ever expected, and at a price that was probably better than you expected?
IIRC, some years ago, you had posted a question about one's expectation for a house going up with every year that you bubble-sit. Maybe the fact that you were able to wait for so long and really define what you were looking for made it possible to take quick action when you found the home that exceeded your wildest expectations at a price you could realistically and responsibly afford.
Does your environment affect how you feel on a daily basis, especially when you're able to get a home that provides everything you've ever wanted for your family?
...or is it the squats and rock throwing? To be sure, physical exercise helps one feel better mentally and emotionally.
Maybe it's the fact that your kids are growing up to be even better than you had ever hoped.
Also, I think that with age, we really begin to appreciate how fragile life is, and we start to value every second of every day.
Having low expectations is the key to happiness, too, and you are certainly the type of person who tends to lean on the conservative side where expectations are concerned.
Whatever it is, may you have many, many, many more years of this joyful life! I'm so very happy for you!
IIn sum the present eludes me.
Forget Jack l. Maybe I should be more like my cat Noah
I aspire to be more like the Raphael my daughters Beta fish. I havent changed the water in 5 years yet he persists. Kinda like me.
How the heck did you get a betta fish to last more than 5 years?
I've gone through 8 of them, and not one lasted more than 1 year.
And I changed the water every week almost....
That must be the problem. Apparentaly they thrive on fish poop and algae. We've been trying to take him out for years.
Maybe it's a zombie.
Well, ok some disclosures.
First set of fishes I put them in the same tank, without knowing betas are fighting fish.
The second set, got sick, so I stuck a new tank heater in it. The tank heater electrocuted the fish (later the heater was recalled...)
The third set, got sick and I and fed a bunch of antibiotics (which was more than my own antibiotics), and I guess couldn't take the antibiotics.
The fourth set died of natural causes (with no flu involvement whatsoever)....
A heater? Life must be good in Carmel Valley. My poor beta must deal with room temperature what ever that may be.
It's because I can't afford AC or turning on the real heaters, dude....Me and family have to wear coats in the winter inside, and can see our CO2 frosted as we exhale..Not like some of you 1%'ers out in Encinitas...
I actually think as you get older you seem to forget what a great time that you had when you were young. And now that you are old you appreciate most anything if it dosen't blow up in your face. I can't imagine that life could be better than being around 20, spending a few days camping on a deserted beach in Muleje, drinking cerveza, snorkeling for scallops and having sex 3-4 times a day with a young hot 20 year old.
I cant find my keys or my reading glasses anymore but I never forget the times I had like that.
It's great to remember all the great times youth gave us--and each of us will for the rest of lives. They become little snapshots in your memory, stored away forever.
No one likes to get older, but all of us will. I'm sure I never thought I'd be in my 50's, but here I am, and grateful I made it this far--some don't, you know.
Getting older isn't great, but it isn't all bad, either. Getting to the point of not having to worry about money, knowing the kids are pretty much settled in life, doing what you love, etc., etc., gives it a certain sheen to me.
The main thing is to try to enjoy each day, just as you mentioned.
I have an app for that.
Always thinking of the future or remembering the past we are, never focused on what we are doing in the present.
Anyway I think that is what Yoda said in Star wars
Some people are better at being young than others. I was born to be 50-75 years old.

I am cracking up reading this! You really didn't know that they were fighting fish? Very surpised by this.

cactus make good pets. i understand when they stick me. i got too close. they need space.
Favorite line from a Brave Combo song
"It takes a lot of practice
to polka with a cactus."
Funny you should mention this. I killed a cactus once...I think I watered it too much.
Dead?
That's my longterm plan. Shortrange I was thinking of being all round friskier and slightly more optimistic.
