OT: Indian casino propositions? And vote for prez?User Forum Topic
Submitted by CMcG on January 10, 2008 - 2:45pm
My family of three got our mail-in ballots yesterday and will vote tonight. All of us are staunch in our presidential choices and will not change our minds: Me (Baby Boomer)--Edwards I'm curious as to who you guys are going to vote for. Just a name...no need to explain why you're voting for the person unless you feel like it. We are less sure of ourselves in terms of the Indian casino props. Those voter info pamphlets are poorly written, IMO. But we're leaning toward voting yes on all of them. How about y'all?

Not Edwards
Not Shrillary
Not Kucinich
Not Huckabee
Not McCain
Not Guiliani
Other than that I'm not decided.
meanddale--
I know. It's a tough one. What is going to help you make up your mind? It sounds like you might be considering Mitt, Obama, and Paul.
Anyone that restores balance to our government. With an expected Democrat Congress sweep, I'd vote for anyone that's Republican.
selfportrait
----- Sour grapes for everyone!
My kid goes to college in the Bay Area and reports that there's almost equal enthusiasm for Paul and Obama and that's it.
gen x (me) Obama baby!
gen x (hubby) Obama baby!
daughter (first timer) Obama baby!
Hey, Little Lady! :) How was your desert trip?
I'm voting for Obama.
little lady--
Even tho I am voting Edwards, looks like Obama is gonna win in this state. Lots of passion among college kids. Fine with me. I'll vote for whoever the Dem candidate wins. I worry about the Southern states, though, as some people have expressed in the Obama thread. I'm ancient, however. When I was a really little kid, I remember my mom having coffee klatches with the other neighborhood moms and hearing them say about Kennedy, "Well, he's Catholic but he's more handsome than Nixon!" The times they are a-changing!
I'm for whoever will stop making me pay into social security and medicare.

I don't think the Bay area is thought of as representative of the pulse of America.

So, it sounds like all you need to do is figure out which one will result in you losing your job.
This is CERTAINLY true. They are more liberal than those of us in San Diego or L.A. I have no idea how this is going to play out in places like the I.E. or the Central Valley.
Sorry. I was responding to Former San Diegan, if that wasn't clear.
I'll vote for Obama or Clinton, depending upon whose name shows up on the ballot (I'm an independent and don't get to vote in the primaries). I think they are both qualified and if I see another wavy haired rich old white male in the oval office, I think I'll get sick!
Besides, we've just went through the worst president in US history - anything has got to be better.
I've always said what TheBreeze has been preaching - a Dem on one side (Prez or congressional majority) and a Rep on the other. That way they can keep an eye on each other and we get more representative laws and budgets. But for the time being, I'll take a Dem on both sides to try and erase some of the last decade.
Wifey, she'll vote Democratic I guarantee you.
Voting for Paul in the Primary. That's the loudest message I can send to the Republicans to return to their fiscal roots.
On the props: no.
No on the Indian gaming. $14Billion over 20 years is a pittance compared to the costs the gaming drives into our communities.
No on the term limits which is really a rollback of term limits from 2 terms in either house to up to 6 terms in the Assembley and 3 in the Senate.
No on the bonds. No on the taxes.
Svelte: you CAN vote in the primary this Feb. 5th. The California Democratic Party will allow you to vote in their primary. Not the Republics, no. Read your voter guide that you should have received recently.
...oh, and forgot to mention...we're not for limitations on casinos. Let the Indians open as many as they want!
I kinda like the idea of them buying America back one parcel at a time...with money that was gambled away to boot!
Thanks Colombo! I thought that right was revoked all together - didn't realize I could still vote on the Dem side. Great info...
Now, what sense does it make for the Reps to not allow independents to vote? If I can vote in the Dem primary, it gets us independents used to voting that way...
"Well, he's Catholic but he's more handsome than Nixon!"
CUTE!
His story repeats itself, Obama is a goodlooking guy,........ but I don't think that's why my husbands voting for him. He doesn't like Hiliary. I don't think he thinks she's goodlooking either, lol!
I am not as "in the know" as you all. I just like what I have seen and heard, he's gotta great vibe, get ready for change! Grew up a union brat(if there is such a thing), my father also a Navy veteran. My parents were always liberals. My father in the middle. He pretty much hated everybody equally! My mother always told us that the Republicans tried to bribe her father, he got fed up with the coruption and changed parties. Then there was "Tricky Dick". We knew they were all crooked but we felt, Republicans.......worse. I grew up in middle class, blue collar, all white Santee, all my friends came from ex-hippie or college age parents in the 60's. We all had a pretty liberal blue collar upbringing. I don't know when it changed........but it is the land of the conservative now!
My husband has put in his retirement after 21 years in the Navy. He says he can't work for a government he can't support, believe in, or trust. He was in both Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He thought he was ready to fight for what he was told was right and now feels decieved(no weapons of mass destruction). He is no longer Republican.
Don't get me wrong Republicans have their place in the world, for balance. I just believe in a democracy not a theocracy .......
Hililiary pisses to many people off(republicans seem to hate her passionately), but if she beats Obama..........
Marion,
Thanks for asking great, so many fireworks! A friend of mine got pretty toasted, she was quite the entertainment that weekend. We had some great laughs at her expense!
Oh, and YES all the casinos and the money they provide the Indians and our state. Nevada pays for it's schools with their gambling tax revenue, we could stand a little help!
GO INDIANS!!!!!!!
My brother only pays .5% property tax on his house in Las Vegas!
Rudy. If he does not win, perhaps Senator former POW. If not one of them, I am giving up my SD house search and moving to Spain.
Paul
Then I'm not sure except not Obama.
Alan Keyes. It is time for an intelligent conservative.
Me- boomer.
Hillary or Obama... Probably Hillary...
I think that she is a robot, she is smart, she is playing the game (I don't like that), but she wants to win.
She has the experience, and she will push our country off it's greedy republican tilt...
Actually - I think I'm changing my mind....
Obama!
@cyphire
Exactly WHAT experience does Hillary have?
I'm sick of the BS put forth by Hillary that she has 30+ years of experience.
Being married to a governer and a president does not qualify you to hold either office. Would you consider the wife of a surgeon qualified to cut you open? The wife of a plumber qualified to install your new water heater?
Hillary has never had an executive position to my knowledge. Being senator for a term or two does not qualify you to run the country.

Although I'm not for Hillary because she will raise taxes on the upper middle class but Bill Gates does not have an MBA and yet many would consider him the most successful businessman around for his foresight, vision and strategy.
@kev
I'm not sure why you brought up Bill Gates as a counte point. Running a multi-billion dollar company COUNTS as executive experience.
What has Hillary done?
I am an Edwards person. However, Obama needs every votes, so I am voting Obama.
On the fence here.....my guess is most people won't really vote for Clinton or Obama for president, so I am going for Edwards.
Arty--
You're the first one in this thread, other than me, to support Edwards. I'm a lib and a feminist, to some extent, but I feel Obama and Clinton are unelectable. The hatred of Hillary out there -- and a lot of it is from conservative women -- is very worrisome. If it comes down to Hillary or Obama over Rudy...well, I can live with Rudy. But what if Huckabee is the nominee? That frightens me. Do you think he has a chance?
Thanks, Ricechex. We'll see what happens.
Obama.
As for experience, Obama rhetorts with 'Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were two of the most experienced politicians this country has ever known. And look where that got us.' This government needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. You don't do that with experience. You do that with fresh ideas and beliefs.
Also, wasn't Lincoln a junior senator when he was elected? I could be wrong on that, but that's not a lot of experience either. Oh, and he was from Illinois too. Coincidence?
Bottom line: Experience is overrated and this country needs change.
As for the Indians? YES they should have more slots. I love going to the casino to kill a couple hours. I was really bummed a couple years ago with that failed prop to allow them REAL craps and roulette machines, not this half-assed "card craps" or whatever they went with instead. And, yah, we haven't even payed them for all this land yet.
Go afx114!!!!!
"This government needs to be destroyed and rebuilt."
I say this just about everyday! Politics as usual have got to go. The only real change will come when someone stands up and rallies the US into 60's style protests and starts a revolution!!! Unfortunately, probably not in our lifetime..........

Absolutely, all or nothing....what are they trying to prove? It's gambling, so GAMBLE! Don't modify it! What does that prove? It's not gambling?
