Quote from Article…

Bob Siegel, a member of Skyline Church in La Mesa and a self-described “Christian apologist,” said he doesn’t find the billboard offensive.
“But I do see a double standard from the atheists,” he said. “They can put up a sign like that, but during Christmas, if a manger goes on public land, they act like their civil liberties are being taken away.
=====

I don’t see a double standard. If Mr. Siegel wants to fork over $6,200 to put a manger on a billboard, no one is going to care. Conversely, if the Atheist billboard was placed on public land for free, most people would take issue. Anyways, I was struck that an organization (probably not well funded) would pay this kind of money for advertisement given the state of the economy.

Atheists as a whole are better educated and earn more money than people of faith, so that's probably part of where the money comes from. Atheists as a whole make more money than agnostics (which is my own personal point of view, although I'm technically somewhere between Apathetic Agnostic and Secular Humanist).

Interestingly, atheists also tend to marry later, have fewer children, and are much less likely to get divorced (although comparable for believers who marry later and have similar education levels).

I dunno...I think the atheists detect an opportunity as more people become disenchanted with religion.

We've just had a decade of the Catholic church denying it participated in child abuse. We've had the Mormons fund the defeat of gay marriage. We've even had the church insert itself into the current medical insurance debate on the abortion issue.

There probably is a real opportunity here to have more people see the light - that God is just Santa Claus for adults....nothing more than a mirage.

This non-bright theist who got married early and has lots of kids also fails to see the double standard. Mr. Siegel's observation is, among other things, a non sequitur.

I think Svelte has faith that god is Santa Claus for adults, and that's all Svelte needs.

So Svelte thinks God brings presents to grown people? This is the a part I am confused about. Man, this hard stuff.

He only brings presents to atheists, the other ones already have faith so what's the use.

Still confused.We know God brings bad things to the faithful for their own good,but I also know some athiests for whom life, from cradle to grave, looks like the life of one of God's most faithful,Job. I guess they were not very good atheists?
