Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has announced that she is stepping down as that state's governor in a matter of weeks.

From Alaska CBC Affiliate KTVA:

At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship.

All the libs on the TV and talk radio are coming out of the wood work to attack Palin for leaving mid-term. This just shows how terrified of her they are. If it is such political suicide, then why are they not cheering. They are shaking in their boots! It gives her time to write a book and run all over getting more visibility. She just stole BO's thunder the day before the our most patriotic holiday. They wanted her on ice in Alaska and it did not happen. She left on a high note and still has more experience than the current dear leader, who left his Senate seat.....

Only dead fish go with the flow.

I'm a liberal, and I'm hoping she announces her intentions to run for president. (She won't any time soon. Too many $25,000 a pop speaking engagements first, which would end with her announcing.) Democrats and liberals aren't afraid of Sarah Palin. Most consider her a joke. The best thing that could happen for the Dems is for her to win a republican nomination, with her solid 20% support.

I don't think that's going to happen. I think another shoe will drop shortly.

I"m a liberal hippie and I hope she runs for President. She would be in a major catfight with the Huckabee faction. It leaves Romney with the mormons and no doubt Giuliani will run as the mayor of 9/11.

I'm not sure why Palin chose to resign.

if she ran for Governor she'd probably win. If she ran for senator she'd have a shot at Displacing Murkowski and winning a National platform.

If she quits, because of a scandal she'll have nothing.

Now if she rode out a scandal maybe she could survive like Sanford is trying to do.

All i can think is she wants to get on the speaking tour on the life of Trig's mom and right to life.

Wow....

I feel sorry for Mark Sanford. Sounds like he really loved Maria. Now he'll have neither power nor love.

Republicans painted themselves into a corner they can't escape. They have to at least keep the facade of virtuousness.

What scandal? Nothing ever came out of anything. It was all bullshit instigated by her distractors.

You do that briansd1 on July 3, 2009 - 3:04pm. Let's hope you still have a computer and a job by that time. I am sure plenty on this forum have your choice quotes stored away as well. I hope you have kept your quotes sweet, when you eat your words.

At 0:30, did she just say that staying on as governor (ie, "plod along") would be the "quitter's way out"???

Submitted by pri_dk on July 3, 2009 - 5:19pm.

Her entire brand was based on the idea that she was tough and principled.

If they spin it that she quit because her family couldn't take it, then she doesn't come across as tough. If they make her out to be a hero because she's sacrificing for her family, it would be pretty hard for her to ever get back in the ring.

If they spin it that she quit to prepare for 2012, then it comes across as crafty. Not exactly principled.

If this is part of a strategy, it's a very poor move.

If the republicans weren't spiraling right now, I'd say the only possible explanation is that she is just throwing in the towel. But they've been making some bizarre decisions lately, so who knows?

If Palin runs, we might as well add Dan Quayle to the ticket.

I'm very conservative and thought she was a terrible pick from the start. In addition to her gross inexperience, her voice can bring a man to tears (in a bad way).

Maybe it will finally be Romney's time?

I don't get it. Sanford is staying in the job, Palin is resigning. We're in bizarro world.

We won't have to wait until 2012 to prove this prediction:

She's going to Fox News.

She had a choice to finish out her term in a declining economy, or join Rush and the gang making huge money in the conservative media.

What's wrong with being a capitalist? Beats being a community organizer from Kenya.

Agreed--Fox, or something like it.

I can't blame her if she decided to get some financial security for her family. This is definitely the time to do it: she's a hot commodity right now, but if she waits too long she might miss her chance to cash in.

Good luck to her and her family. But I gotta say that bailing out like this lowers my opinion of her as a public servant even further, a feat I didn't think possible.

This is probably the real story, and probably the smartest thing she's done yet.

If she has one iota of sense (something I'm not sure of), then she has to realize her chances for Prez 2012 are very close to nil. Therefore, why not make a pile of dough milking the public spotlight she currently enjoys?

I have to say I would probably consider doing the same thing in her shoes.

Democrats and liberals are terrified of Palin. Constant attempt to package her as a joke in an attempt to discredit her and her message. Same tactic as used on Reagan and Bush.

If her conservative politics were not a threat, the opposition would not give her the time of day. Quite the opposite is happening.

Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

LOL... No, that isn't exactly how you use it. The expression is used more when someone tries to do something dishonest or kick below the belt because they couldn't win/achieve something the normal way.

Examples would be:

1) You lose a race, and accuse someone of cheating without proof.

2) You show up for work for 2 hrs out of 8, and when you don't get a promotion you claim you were discriminated against

3) You borrow a lot of money, and then when you can't pay it back, you claim the banks cheated you.

4) You lose an election, and you demand a recount after recount after recount...And then even if the results still don't come in your favor, you claim there was voter "irregularity"

But to further correct your grammar, "ni" refers to you...You would say "ta" as a third person reference to him/her.

i.e.

"ta hen nai pi"

Get it?

I'll give you an A- though for effort.

Sorry, i want a republican candidate to win the 2012 election to restore *some* balance to our government (or an indep. candidate, which will probably still be unlikely)...However, Palin is someone that can be done without.....

Psycho religious nut that can't keep her own home up to snuff.

Ron Paul 2012 :)

As die-hard conservative, I'll have to agree with Flu on this one. She is so battered and damaged that she can't be any good to anyone. She should have stayed as governor. If she can get a TV show, more power to her, but I'd never watch.

President? She's got no chance . . .

When those idiots say they are going to "spend more time with my family" you know they are about ready to be indicted or they've had an affair.
