For Cxa@#$#@$#@$23 sake, you know you're community is a sitting target if teens start robbing banks and nothing comes of it.

WTF? Why don't some of the banks in this area grow some balls and start hiring real shoot to kill security/police rather than put a slightly overraged rent-a-cop....It's getting ridiculous...

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/...

And the list keeps growing and growing....
USBank was robbed by someone in their 60ies in broad-daylight INSIDE a VONS in torrey hills a few months ago....

Grow some frickin balls, or these things are gonna continue happening....

I noticed that there had been what seemed like a large number of bank robberies in the area. What I didn't realize is that teens were involved. I wonder if this is an economic indicator or just a conincedence.

Are the "rich" kids having to turn to crime to support their activities?

Have any arrests been made in any of these cases?

Particularly the cases involving teens, you would think an arrest would be pretty quick.

How many banks are in Carmel Valley? Goodness....

My theory is that

1)Considered slightly more affluent area
+
2)Lax security precautions

Probably you don't see this as much in La Jolla, Encinitas, nor RSF because the police there don't kid around.

I doubt these teens are from the area. The thing is that with teens being able to rob a bank and not being apprehended, it probably sends a message to every other juvi that "hey, easy target"...

There aren't *that* many banks. Maybe 15ish...And most of them are INSIDE a supermarket like vons, ralphs, etc or inside a well lit, heavily populated strip mall....

One of my neighbhor's friend that lives in torrey hills has their car broken into. And then perp ended up using their credit card at a video store...They had clear VIDEO from a security camera showing the two perps (man and woman)...SDPD still hasn't done shit.

Some of the banks were robbed twice in the same year.

The few banks that do end up hiring a security guard, it's a joke. Usually some guy who looks like is a senior citizen that's about to keel over. I guess they figure not that could possibly happen...Absolutely ridiculous...

Why would the cops care about a robbery? There is no money to be made investigating a robbery. Writing tickets is where it's at.

Just kidding, of course. The banks need to up their security.

Why would they bother to up their security? They have insurance.

That and the economics of bank robbing isn't what it once was in the era of Bonnie and Clyde. I imagine you'd be lucky to get $20,000 in cash for your trouble, which is great if you get away with it but carries a huge risk. Still, that loss is nothing for the bank compared to the liability of having a teller or security guard get shot and have to pay medical bills or survivor benefits.

The money these teens rob pale in comparison to the money homeowners robbed through this real estate bubble. Banks have bigger worries. Robbing a bank nowadays is like a petty crime compared to the money lost in real estate. But then again, the banks aren't even worried about that, since the taxpayers are there to the rescue.

I believe it's the feds that investigate these things and I'm sure they are reading this as I'm typing it so I have full confidence that they will eventually catch the perps. Teenagers like to brag and that will eventually get them caught.

I understand that there was a bunch of "robbery" by wall street. But let's face it...Pretty soon thug that robs banks then starts actually robbing in the community from mom and pop stores or residence. Anyone that says "how is this different from the Obama adminstration", I'm going to slap silly.

I really wish banks in the area would start getting serious about beefing up security. It's just ridiculous. And I think I read some of the mom and pop stores have been hit too.

Anyway...

If the banks took security seriously, these guys might be turning to home invasion, car jacking or some other target of opportunity.

I could have sworn I read about an increase in home invasions in Carmel Valley and surrounding areas early last year.

And this is why the "Three Strikes" law was so popular. A small percentage of the criminal population commits the vast majority of crimes. These scum need to be taken off the streets for life, IMHO.

Well there was the perp who assaulted asian women. But he was caught and arrested.

Then there was a bunch of copycat home invasion robberies targeting women, but I think SDPD did start beefing up patrol and communities started hiring armed securities (not rent-a-cops).

Personally, versus a 3 strike rule, I prefer a 1 strike, castration rule. But a big guard dog is more practical.

Do you really want a situation involving guns and teenagers? The part of thier brain that does risk analysis doesn't usually develop until thier early twenties. This is the reason teenagers feel invincible. Guns, and agitated teenager, and hostages is a lethal mix. So, what, they end up with a couple of thousand. You want your daughter or spouse to get killed over a shootout for 25 Large? Doesn't seem worth it.

And it is too bad they are not adults. I have a friend that is a FED. When a bank gets robbed and they have no leads you know what they do? They go to titty-bars and ask if anyone was throwing around cash then go to the car dealership to see if someone bought in cash.

Guess their methods don't work as well if the perp is underage!

Does this crime wave take some of the sheen and glow off of Carmel Valley?

I know bank holdups happen elsewhere... but I read so much about how perfect Carmel Valley is - above average schools, above average kids... it's better than Lake Wobegon. Except it has banks that get robbed.

It's not just the banks. They robbed the Del Mar Highlands movie theater not long ago, and also the Subway in Carmel Piazza.

Despite there being a police station right on El Camino Real, the crooks know that they can be on the freeway and long gone by the time the cops show up.

Bank robberies are quite common. The average haul in a bank robbery is less than $5,000. [That's down from almost $20,000 40 years ago.] 80%+ of all bank robberies are committed by repeat offenders. While it's unusual to immediately catch someone involved in an individual robbery, most robbers ultimately get caught because they keep going until they get caught. So, most robbers are ultimately caught, but it generally takes several robberies before they actually get caught.

We used to live in Carmel Valley, and now have a few rentals there. We can't believe how much the area has changed over the years.

Sadly, if something drastic isn't done soon, this type of activity will, no doubt, increase in every area--especially when many of the kids in San Diego, and California in general, realize they may never be able to afford to live here after leaving Mom & Dad's little nest!

Interesting. Regarding the Subway, when and what time of day? Do you have a link to a news article? I go there a lot.
