Second realtor knocking on my door this weekendUser Forum Topic
Submitted by ybbor on September 25, 2006 - 7:10am
There is a strange phenomenon going on in my neighborhood lately... I live in a nice apartment complex in Carmel Mountain. Last weekend, I got someone knocking on my door in the middle of the day wearing a suit... I answer, and this guy says “Hi, are you planning on buying a house anytime soon?”. I say “hell no, you’d have to be crazy to buy a house right now”. He says, “Oah, well thank you” and turns and walks to the next door in the complex. I though this was an isolated desperate real-estate agent, but then it happened again this weekend from a different agent!! I also got an advertisement on my doorknob asking if I was going to be buying a house soon. They are getting desperate. Any suggestions as to what I can tell the next one that comes to my door too totally and utterly destroy them emotionally? How long before they are fighting over the best street corner to hold the sign that says “I’ll sell your house for food”.

I've got to admire them for trying!
We had a guy in our Van Nuys (L.A) neighbourhood doing exactly the same thing earlier on this year in Spring - we were showered with notepads with his name, cards hung on our doorknob, Visits - to which I answered "no, we're happy renting for the moment, thanks", and he even had an advert on one of the bus stops round the corner from us.
Wierdly enough, I've seen no mention of him for a while. His bus stop ad is even gone.....
Of course, this Spring I wasn't aware of what was going on in the RE industry, but now, thanks to all concerned, his desperation makes sense.
We have a guy that has been throught he ups and downs with our neighborhood for a while. We get notepads about every other month left by hime blanketing our complex. He's one of those agents that virtually owns the neighborhood.
Anyway, his semi-monthly letter arrived Friday. I opened it and was quite surprised to see his advice for those thinking of selling. Price it right, price it low, if you don't, it won't sell. In addition, he was beating the competition drum on it too, showing the last place sold and how many are for sale in the complex at which price for which amount.
A welcome dose of reality from an RE Agent.
If you tell him that you're a renter, he'll know that you're a "potential" buyer.
How about telling him that you'll be leaving San Diego soon and never plan to buy here? He'll stop pestering you.
A good salesman never takes no for an answer. To him that an opportunity to make a sale.
That's why my realtor is a renter. I call him not the other way around. My phone conversations with him go like this:
Hey buddy here is the address, submit this offer.
My website tracking Temecula and South Riverside County
Motion him to come real close, make a frightened look, and then whisper in his ear, "Haven't you heard the IMF warning about the global recession from the housing crash? I'm waiting for MLS to reach 60,000 so I can pick up one of the 20,000 REOs. Come back when we get there.."
I know a guy who has done pest control for 17 years.. just recently he's had to start going door to door himself!
I also know a UPS driver.. who the folks at Bressi have tried to sell on a home more than once!
