Need help with hot condo buyer in LAUser Forum Topic
Submitted by La Jolla Renter on September 12, 2008 - 11:32am
I have a friend that is hot to buy a 500kish 2BR condo in LA. I could use some help in getting them to see the light. What is the best website with mls data? What is the best LA site similar to piggington? Is there a site that talks about specific condo complexes? Thanks

I've tried for years to help people I knew from making stupid financial mistakes.
It's a waste of time.
Once someone makes up their mind, they cant be bothered with facts.
Last November a newlywed relative, renting in Westwood, with a baby on the way, decided to buy. With two PhDs and two great jobs between them, they could easily afford most anything...they even went house-hunting. I persuaded them to check out some gloomy bubble blog sites & wake up to reality.
They did, upgraded to a bigger rental, & now thank me (& others, who urged the same).
So while it is often, maybe usually, fruitless to keep their hands away from falling knives, it is not inevitable. You have a duty to at least try.

The L.A. Times RE blog is quite good -- and quite a departure from the usual pro-CAR drivel in the print edition.
Now is certainly not the time to buy in L.A.
