McCain - one of the Keating 5User Forum Topic
Submitted by NewtoSanDiego on October 5, 2008 - 5:22pm
As Yogi Berra commented....It's De ja vu all over again. Current crisis is signficantly larger than the S&L crisis of the 1980s. McCain and Republicans and for that matter Democrats are all tainted in my eyes. I was once a true-red Reagan Republican. I am now independent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju7zjDnF_... McCain in the end was censured by Congress for his significant ethical lapse. The Obama campaign will shortly be reminding people of this incident.

They better!
With Palin trying to tie Obama to a "terrorist", Obama sure as h*ll better point out McCain's documented past.
If you want to vote for a secret Muslim who attended a madrassas and conspired with a radical terrorist to blow up the Pentagon go right ahead.
Damn. I got to stop watching Fox "News".

I remember the Pollyannas calling those who predicted this crisis chicken littles.
They claimed that SD was immune because this real estate downturn is nothing like the 1990s when the S&L failed and there were layoffs due to defense downsizing.
The deleveraging process will be worse. And guess what? When we finally pull out of Iraq, defense spending will decrease as well.
On the S&L, corruption was endemic back in the day. And who was instrumental in deregulating the banks? Phil Gramm. Guilty by association. This presidential campaign will be fun to watch. I'm enjoying it.
I only wish that Obama would hit back harder. Instead of rapid reaction, he should go with rapid offense.
Troubling video.....it is damning
Trying to slime McCain with Keating is the most distant of reaches. Unlike democrat icons Glenn and Cranston, McCain was the Senator from Keating's home state. The only services provided by McCain were what might have been minimally expected as constituent services. The Senate Ethics Committee held McCain under the investigation for political cover, since the four senators who WERE owned by Keating were all democrats. All the while, the prosecutor wanted him released because he knew he was innocent. Of course none of this matters to democrats. Spin on with your lies. Certainly the truth won't get you to the White House.
I wouldn't consider a reach at all. You sound like a partisan hack.
We deserve to know all aspects of candidate's past, McCain and Obama. Including Obama's previous associations with Ayers, his pastor, etc. Both sides are spinning the stories to make it look as bad as possible.
McCain commented himself that it was "the lowest point in his professional career" and he admitted poor judgement. He took sizeable campaign contributions and Keating flew his whole family down to the Bahamas on multple occasions. He was the closest Senator to Keating in terms of personal relationship.
On the upside, he saw the errors in judgement and repented by launching a campaign finance reform initiative, eventually resulting in the McCain-Feingold Bill.
