of the three posts he've originated they are

1) Obama is a lightweight,

2) Dems intent on destroying the middle class

3) Obama isn't a US Citizen.

i think rich needs to toss this guy.

this forum is for the landed poor,

now if you want to do a bubble story on GOP workers in DC
underwater on their homes that's fine.
but otherwise lets stick to discussions of real estate and the market

Submitted by jficquette on July 4, 2008 - 1:13pm.

Ah yes, the democrats, if they can't handle the facts they try to get people to shut up.

All my posts are in the off topic area. If you don't like it, change the channel.

Today is July 4th, patb

Celebrate Liberty, Ignore him.

His posts are weird but amusing. And you can't deny many people have similar views as him.

Let's celebrate diversity of opinion, even if it is ridiculous.

Submitted by gandalf on July 4, 2008 - 2:10pm.

Yeah, I'm down with that. Toss the guy. He's an ass.

Back to the bubble. Occasional discussion of politics is fine, it's all good. The whole real-estate-economics-finance-gas-prices-taxes -- it's all kind of wound up in larger macro issues which include government, economics, policy and even foreign policy. Be respectful. Keep it level.

The partisan stuff really turns me off though. In fact, I've realized last couple of months, I HATE partisans, all these "Karl Rove" talking point types. Wrecking our country. Not putting up with it anymore.

That's my 2c. Get rid of the guy. Get his MAC address and block him.

Submitted by gandalf on July 4, 2008 - 2:16pm.

brsharma, I stand corrected. You're exactly right. Let 'em spew. It's a free country. You're exactly right.

It damages the signal-to-noise on Piggs though. It's noise. Hurts the site, more noise for the rest of us.

I swear, I think the dude gets paid by the Repub party or something, planting messages everywhere. I bet if we did some research, he'd show up all over the net doing the same thing...

Good 4th and,
Best regards,
Gandalf

patb, I agree with you that these posts are lame and I am also pretty continually baffled as to why people want to get into political debates on this site when there are millions of sites solely devoted to that purpose.

However, it's just not feasible for me to start tossing people because their posts are unpopular or off topic. There is after all an off topic forum, and that's there because people have expressed to me that they like to discuss OT stuff sometimes. The amount of action that the OT forum gets is proof to some degree that people like having it.

If there is an off topic forum, I can't go in and arbitrarily start bouncing people because they are "too" off topic. Those kind of constant interventions are precisely what I am trying to avoid because I just don't have time to moderate the forum.

Now, I would actually get rid of the entire concept of the OT forum and make a house rule that posts should be topical, but only if a large majority of users wanted it that way. It has to be a large majority because the fact is that if you don't like the OT stuff, you don't have to read it. (FWIW I habitually ignore these political flamewar threads and many other OT threads as well).

So to sum up, the real question comes down to whether this is a housing-only forum or not. If you want to start a thread or poll on that debate, be my guest, and I am happy to conform to the will of the piggs. But it's got to be either one of the two -- off topic allowed or off topic prohibited -- it's really not feasible to enforce a middle ground. Thanks for your understanding.

Rich

I am no more partisan then you are and unlike you I have information to back up what I post.

Whoa whoa whoa!!!

No OT stuff? Whattsa matta you Rich?

Seriously some of the most entertaining posts have been OT. Remember the girl who had the IT hubby in the porn industry who wanted to do nothing but make babies and live in Temecula?

Plus it is not even football season and you cannot take away OT stuff or else Allan, TG and I will have nothing to talk about!

I actually think the banter is quite entertaining. If you don't like it, don't respond to it.

Submitted by CA renter on July 4, 2008 - 4:52pm.

I agree, SD Realtor!

Nobody has to read the OT stuff, and it helps keep us entertained while we wait for the credit cycle to bottom.

Besides, we need to keep our debating skills honed. :)

p.s.: I wanted to apologize to you, SD Realtor, if it seemed my comments were making light of renting troubles in the other post. That was not my intention, and completely sympathize with you on the problem of finding a good rental, as we also have a larger family. After so many years of hearing the "bitter, jealous renter" comments, I just get defensive about renting. I sincerely hope you find a nice house at a great price for you and your family!

Based on Active forum topics, only 5 out of 15 threads are RE related. If you make it so that only RE thread are allowed, I think we'll see a dramatic decline in post. Could be a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. We all are pretty much in agreement here that RE will keep on going down. We've also already posted about a lot of the topics. So now, we all are in the waiting for the time to buy phase.

SD Realtor:

Too funny that you resurrected her!

I've been thinking of starting an off topic thread, "Bunny Meadows, where are you?", just to see what she posts this time.

Submitted by cooperthedog on July 4, 2008 - 7:06pm.

I don't agree with banning jficquette. Anyone of any intelligence, regardless of their political leaning, will recognize this sophistry. Just ignore him.

Submitted by meadandale on July 4, 2008 - 7:36pm.

I find it odd that anyone would want to ban jficquette after a few posts when we've been tolerating marion and her off topic BS for months.

Maybe it's because marion agrees with patb politically and jficquette doesn't?

After remembering her, I was thinking of starting a new poll.

"How many times per week do you get laid?"

With the following choices.

a) >1
b) 1
c) between 0 and 1
d) 0
e) Depends if my viagra prescription is current
f) Does self-pleasure count?
g) Currently 0, I haven't received my stimulus check yet.
h) Currently 0, My HELOC line got closed, and I'm frantically trying alternatives.

But I figured that would be sort of crude. And I'd wouldn't want to offend anyone single enginerds that would score a 0.0

Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

Happy 4th everyone .

rich

maybe you should allow some sort of scoring system
like slashdot or daily kos uses. let people vote on how
useful a post is.

if enough people vote, then the poster soon vanishes.

now, i know professor piggington is busy managing the collapsometer,
but his assistant rich may look at an engine interface.

now i rarely read the OT posts, and don't care except
i think jfuquette is purely trying to troll.
the name J Fuck it? is phonetic to jfuquette.

the constant drone of anti obama anti democrat,
it's hurting the signal to noise ratio

Patb, quit being such a whiny bitch and either post something that makes sense or go away and don't come back.

I showed your post to my wife and she laughed her ass off.

patb: So if someone doesn't agree with your particular sentiments on an issue, you want to see them banned?

The OT post on McCain/Obama is running at about 12 pages, and most of it (with some glaring exceptions) is entertaining and informative. Yes, there are some firebrand ideologues on both sides of the issue, but so what? It's an election year, following what is proving to be a contentious presidency; one would expect emotions to run a little high.

Your mention of Daily Kos didn't go unnoticed. Kos and HuffPost are famous for shouting down those that don't agree. One of the things I do intensely dislike about Leftists is their tendency towards repression, especially with anyone deviating from the accepted ideological norm. That is censorship, pure and simple, and it has no place on this site or in this country.

Although I can't think of what subtle compliment I could be paying to Bunny Meadow's writings, but she surely made an impression, and collectively the Piggintonians made her feel more and more important as they replied to her postings.

jficquette & Rich,

To jficquette:
I would just request that when you post in the off topic forum that you have the common courtesy to prefix the post with "OT:" like others do.

To Rich:
Even better, I would like to see you have a seperate sidebar area for Off Topic discussions so that they don't appear at the top of the "Active forum topics" list. This is primarily a housing blog and IMHO if the Off Topic begins to dominate, it devalues the site. If there are off-topic postings they should appear in a seperate sidebar BELOW the Active forum topics....

Yeah, the posts are frequent and ridiculous. It devalues the site. The whole lunatic fringe thing has gotten out of control past couple of years.

How about a sub-set 'OT:Politics' forum? Or would that tangent too much from the purpose of this site?

Submitted by AN on July 5, 2008 - 11:10pm.

The easiest way to make these OT threads not show up on the Active forum topics is to not respond to it. Pure and simple. People do not respond to themselves. So if you get into a debate with someone, that thread will be push to the top. Just don't respond and it'll die a quick death. If you respond to these "noise" thread, you're adding to the noise yourself.

I concur with SD realtor, I ignore the politics and it doesn't bother me enough to vote for outright ban in order to preserve my right to talk about football, drinking and women. After the Lakers loss, the Padres meltdown, all I have left is football. We are less than two months from the start of the season, the Chargers pretty much have their team intact and their top three all had surgery so they should be healthy. I've got my season all planned out, going to make sure I enter August unencumbered as far as girlfriends go so as to not find myself committed to any non football activities, last season was miserable in that regards. SD, Alan and I will be hijacking a thread near you. McFadden and Walker give Alan and his raiders something to talk about as well (plus Al Davis could die any minute). Houses are just places to watch football and drink anyway, so it's kinda related. Alan and Sd won't be able to help themselves, they will post a response.

See I hijacked the thread, just like that, BAM.

Can I vote on FLU's poll even though I'm not an enginerd, I pick all of the above.

Submitted by Allan from Fallbrook on July 6, 2008 - 12:11am.

TG: I'll jump right in with you, and merrily hijack the thread in the name of football. We've added Spring 8 man football to our youth league, so I now have YEAR ROUND FOOTBALL. Yes, life is good.

Speaking of the Raiders, I give Davis about two seasons to thoroughly ruin McFadden. He'll run him up the middle about 25x per game, until some big Mike linebacker from either Denver or KC puts him out of commission. Javon Walker apparently can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag, and sources within the Raider organization report that Jamarcus can't seem to master the offense (which, if I recall, wasn't exactly overly complex).

That a pretty jacking, TG?

Submitted by SD Realtor on July 6, 2008 - 12:33am.

Ahhh it is good to be back again... Late night Saturday night, roaming the net... waiting for Cheaters to come on... can't get much better then that.

TG yes it has been a dismal spring sportswise... The Padres did somewhat worse then I thought although on the bright side 1 won (well not yet but it is in the bag) a hundred bucks on a Padres will not get to .500 bet I made with a friend. The Lakers IMO did indeed overachieve this year so I was somewhat happy to see them make the finals but that pathetic performance did take the shine off of the achievement. Pinning all our hopes on Bynum is trouble and I think next year we will have a BCD but maybe... just maybe we can get an enforcer inside to help out a bit. The disappearing act by the bench was scary...Sasha showed up for one game and that was it. Lamar was Lamar poof we disappeared.

As for the Bolts... well I am cautiously optimistic. We really need to see a better push up front because that mysteriously went away last year. Also I am praying that Gates does not follow the Eric Parker route. Yeah the same Eric Parker that had basically the same toe injury that Gates had but didn't play a down of football all year last year and who knows if he will play this year. As far as I know I have not heard much talk about him.. The irony of the Gates injury is that it occurred on a HORRIBLE throw by Rivers who was simply trying to avoid a friggin sack. Gates has to twist, reach back in a f'd up position exposing himself and then gets hit and poof... bye bye... Oh yeah did I mention it was for like a 3 yard loss and I don't even recall if he caught the damn ball... Jamal is getting long in the tooth but should be good for another year... seems like he wore down last year. Igor needs to shut up and play and Castillo wasn't the same as his rookie year preinjury... LBs "seem" to be okay and hopefully the will continue to season. Our safety position.... well... I don't know man... Weddle will be okay but he is a little slow... Face it we need help there...

Allan your boys... well honestly I thought last year they would better then they were.. The defense they had the year before was REALLY GOOD and I figured they could win 8 games by simply falling down on the ball for 4 downs and punting each possession. I am not sure what the hell happened last year.

When it is all said and done I think it will be the same old story... ya gotta beat the damn colts and pats... I am not sure if we are up to it but it sure the hell is a nice hideaway from reality for a few hours a week!

Besides, pulling monthly stats of sales and foreclosures gets kind of boring after awhile.

Submitted by temeculaguy on July 6, 2008 - 1:13am.

I knew the boys would come through, f%$k politics, both McCain and Obama should thank their lucky stars they didn't have to face Brady or Manning. Glad to see Alan has figured out a way to have football year round. I've already been bitten by the bug this season, I have a kid playing H.S. ball which started weeks ago but it's not fun to watch until pads. S.D., gates had surgery, it went fine but he may not play in the preseason (speaking of that, we are only four weeks away from the preseason). I'm a little worried about going into the season without Inside the NFL on HBO which I have watched for more than 25 years and if I send any more death threats to the HBO execs for cancelling it they are going to get a restraining order against me.

The Fall, so much to look forward to, rising inventory, more housing price collapse and on Sunday, when Redfin doesn't update, we have football. Can you feel it.
