I get a notice from the IRS yesterday that I did not report Interest Income and that I owe 841.00. WTF?

8 pages of chinese, complete confusion, and send in the payment or they levy it straight from my bank account with no authorization from anyone.

I have been on the phone this morning since 7:00 a.m. trying to contact someone, on hold, with a damn song I can't get out of my head now.

Some guy comes on (Diaz), and I ask him to expound upon this accusation and provide an explanation why they are using my personal SS and not my EIN number for my LLC.

Here is the good part...ready for this? Are you sure you are ready? He proceeds to ask me, what is a LLC (pause). I asked him are you serious? I said you don't know what a LLC is? He said no.

No reason to say anymore. I bet you he makes 80K a year with full bennies, 80 days of vacation, and 100% pension after retirement. But our country is going to be fine.....yea..right....

I once got all my end of the year tax statements from my employer, with everything printed one line up, which is not big deal, you can see the numbers above on every box, some are printed out of boxes entirely, along with my etc..

This caused an audit and they tried to collect 20,000 from me, with countless hours on the phone, explaining what happened and them not able to understand.

Then I get it fixed only to get it again 2 more times for the same thing. After they fixed it another person flagged it as wrong. Each time it was a different amount owed.

Ugh..

Macro, I am so very sorry...that sounds like a horrible headache to deal with. Like lbjames, I suspect this could go on a long long time. Good luck.

More likely though, he is probably making 40K a year, and is a recent hire. Or else, he is a contract worker, which means he is making $25K a year, is 50+ years old, and has had a sketchy employment history. Who else works for that kind of money? Or he is a contractor, and entry level. Or else, he is making 80K a year, is unqualified, and someone higher up knows him from friends/relatives and hired him.

Ask for his supervisor. If he doesn't even know what a LLC is, you need to talk to someone who speaks your language.

Well, look on the bright side.

At least the person who picked up your call didn't say

"Hello, thank you for calling the IRS. This is Chandrarama Sumbraharaynan from Bangalore. How can I help you?"

....well, at least not yet......though had that happened, he probably would have known what an LLC is....\

Oh shit, I need to stop giving our government ideas...

I don't know who you call, but all of the Indian call center that answered my call always have Indian w/ VERY AMERICAN names, such as Bob or Cindy.

I'm getting used to the "Press 2 for Spanish" but I just recently heard "Press 1 for English" from BofA. I was like, WTF, this is American right? I shouldn't need to press anything for English.

At what point does one say screw it - close your bank accounts, etc...and get the hell out of this rat race.

Tell the IRS - take it all. Put me in prison - at least there you'll get medical treatment and plenty of food.

Going forward, I have little doubt the thugs at the IRS will become even more aggressive.

I just received a K-1 from one of my limited partnerships. It states that I made a paltry $18.00 in interest, because they have yet to open the business. What do I do? Do I send the IRS $9.00 with my SSN to play it safe? What a pain in the ---!

Oh, I already filed my 2008 return.
