San Diego Housing Market News and Analysis

Not really off topic, just couldn't decide which category was best. I think if the housing market is going to recover we will need people who are not happy with what they have. With so many big houses being built in the last decade it will be hard to believe that a lot of people will think their house is too small, but that is going to be my bet, we'll see.

I misplaced a pair of pants/ belt by leaving them in a room I rarely go in forcseveral weeks. I was disturbed I couldn't find my pants.

tiny house building class in sd in aug. I'm thinking about going.

It really has to do with changes in the family structure and/or changes in income.

We probably won't see signficant rises in income in the near term, but families will continue to evolve.

People have kids, kids grow and need their own room, kids leave the house and need their own place (and parents can downsize), parents move in, etc. Those types of changes will drive moving or major renovations.

I think it’s more about location/environment upgrades etc…
Does not pay usually to do major upgrades to your home (unless you live in a really really nice area).
You just end up with the nicest home on the block that is worth no more than the home down the street with no upgrades.

I need a 4 car garage or a house with underground parking.... with a workshop that allows me to put a car on a car lift.... In carmel valley....

flu, that one is FL is a little "tacky." Closer to home, I believe you can probably find just what you need in Escondido, Poway or El Cajon ... sans the "underground parking" :=]

Good for YOU, flu! You may still even be young enough to sign up for the POST Academy and qualify for a job with one of those "cushy" law-enforcement pensions in your fifties! And just think of all the "powerful" vehicles you will be able to get paid to race around in!!

I bet those of us who live in Temecula will say it's too big. Just under 3000 sq ft for me, my wife and two dogs. Thank God I have solar.

I hire a maid... but I live in an apartment.

I can't imagine living in a 5000sf house and doing the cleaning yourself. When would have any free time?

Our new home is 2,625-sf and is just right for me, wifey and 2 kids. We are considering enclosing the upstairs loft to make a 4th bedroom in the near future.

IMHO, it is all about the layout. We've lived in a <1,300 sf house with a family of four, and it was quite comfortable. We've also seen 4,000 sf houses that would not work at all because these builders tend to build a lot of wasted space into their layouts.

Our current house is about 2,200 sf for a family of five, and while one can always wish for a bit more space, it feels just right.
