As a long time Piggington (who left SD in April), just want to send my best wishes and hope that you are all ok. Way to reminiscent of 4 years ago. Take care.
I'm sad for the people who are affected by this fire, and that may include people besides those who are losing their homes. The RB and San Marcos fires are both near business parks where there's a lot of employment.
My home isn't at risk but I'm going to spend a few minutes today drawing up a list of what to take it one of these things comes our way. I'd advise everyone - regardless of where you live - to do the same.
Talk about hitting close to home. Some good friends of ours also moved from Ohio a couple of months after us and settled in RB. About 6 months he bought (I didn't want him to) and is on the corner of Duenda, and Alacran Ct. which is two streets up from Aguamiel (21 homes so far) and one street up from Azucar. They are staying with us, so it's very unsettling as they wonder if their home is next.
My gut feeling is they are tucked in pretty safely, and Fox 8 hasn't announced any homes on their street yet, but they are sitting their watching friends and neighbors homes going up.

Take care Piggingtonians.
I'm about 10 miles from the Malibu fire (and the winds going in the other direction), but it sounds like San Diego is getting really crispy.
Be safe, and I wish everyone, their loved ones and property, nothing but the best.
PS: Lake Arrowhead is ablaze - CNN is doing continuous coverage of all the fires. Normally I'd be irritated by thier 24-hour navel-gazing on just one subject, but this time I'm finding myself quite forgiving.

92011 and 92024 should be OK. I have relatives in those zips and they are still home. For 92078, I believe San Elijo has been evacuated, and not sure what is going on near Cal State San Marcos...

Repeat of 2003 fires with vengeance
I hope all fellow Piggintonians are safe and able to evacuate from the fires.
These fires are much worse than the wildfires from 2003!!!!!
I wonder if they will reach the coastal areas before the fire fighters put them out? Arnold should be sending super tankers to help the fire fighters out.

Just a quick note to thsoe on the board. Make sure that your Homeowners or renters policies are Replacement Cost Value policies as opposed to Actual cost value policies.
Make sure you have a copy of your electric bill to prove the house is yours. If you have time take digital pictures of evferything in the house. Get a camcorder if necessary. In the event of a total loss this will help to expedite the claims process.
Or perhaps they weren't slow, but instead the fire was very fast. So fast that as of last night the government was not planning to send them to San Diego County, but instead to other, larger fires.

Those fire tankers don't fly at night for safety reasons, and they aren't much help in 40 mph winds either. Its not like the fire dept as a whole sat around wondering what to do. Sometimes Mother Nature is just too powerful to be stopped.

I've heard about Solana beach be asked to be ready to evacuate.
Some evac notices seem to be a little on the vague side.
(From 5 to 15, from 56 78) That's huge.
Better safe than sorry I guess.
KUSI is holding up a Thomas guide and pointing out where the
fires are, which seems to be the most definitive info that's available on TV. (Anyone know of anything better?)

they just evacuated Scripps Ranch area around then Miramar reservoir so I don't think that going back to Mira Mesa is a good idea...I don't plan to that's for sure.

My in-laws are packing already in Mira Mesa. I hope they won't have to evacuate.
How many homes did we lose in 2003? I hope this one won't be as bad.

They just announced voluntary evacuation for Delmar, Solana Beach, Cardiff, and Encinitas on the news.
Lets hope Ocean Beach and Point Loma are safe
Amazing how slow government is to send the giant C40 air tankers to put these fires out!!!!

Any links out there to anateur photos, or just a huge photobank of images users are submitting for this fire?
NBC reports some areas/fires are waiting for winds to calm before air drops begin because of dangerous downdrafts due to topography and high winds.
Also, damage estimates as of now already exceed Cedar fire.

Is Scripps Ranch on the evacuation list?
yes, mandatory evacuation for Scripps Ranch
My wife works on Coronado island. Is there any problem for her driving back to Mira mesa this afternoon around 2:30pm to 3:00pm?

Jimmyle,
If you or your loved ones have internet, try
maps.google.com and click traffic for area you
are interested in. It will show where traffic is
flowing.
And, check out www.signonsandiego.com for road closures.
Best of luck.

My cousin died in the last fire. They found her with her daughter in the bath. This is strangely reminiscent of the last one. Good luck all.
