Home Inspection on a new construction?

User Forum Topic

Wondering if I should order a home inspection on my new construction. It's a custom build but I've grown leary of the general. It's nearly completed at this point. Any recommendations for an inspector?

Thanks!

Maybe it's just my bad experience(s) with generals... I would do the inpsection. How much have you paid - this is negligible compared to that - and worth it to help protect your investment.

It can also be useful, if you haven't already done a punch list, to help generate the punch list.

I second - yes it's a few hundred dollars out of your back pocket, but think of it as cheap insurance on one of the largest purchases you will ever make. I have two siblings that have purchased new homes in south florida and each had very interesting issues with their houses within 6 months of closing

Find an inspector that is ASHI certified and has NO affiliation with the builder or any realtor whatsoever ! ( you want to make sure that they are working for YOU !!!)

Good luck with your new home !

Do you have a ball park cost of their inspection? I did not see anything on their site.

Usually 300-500.

They have 3 generations of family members in the biz.

The receptionist is the owner's wife (grandma).

So be nice when you call.

Thanks for the recommendation. These guys are ASHI certified and certified new construction specialists. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have an infrared camera inspection done. You will find all the walls that are not insulated correctly and if there was water damage.
