We have a few Chinese posters here. Are your relatives affected by the earthquake? Things like this always seem to happen "somewhere else" but it may only be a matter of time before one hits us here.

I kept in touch with a Chinese panda tour guide in Chengdu and I haven't heard from her in a while. I think she's probably OK and maybe communications are down. That's where the epicenter was. Estimates are 10,000 people dead so far.

Hoping all your family members are safe!

Adding my love and thoughts.

I have meditated on and off all day on sending Light and healing.

For Burma as well

Fortunately not. My family's relatives were mostly from Taiwan, so they just need to worry about typhoons. My wife's side is predominately around Shanghai.

Makes one stop and think about how fragile the world really is. Losing money, bankruptcy, bad speculation, bad risk taking one thing. You can recover from that. Getting killed mother nature isn't exactly something you can control. Despite how fcked up the economy might people, there are always people in elsewhere that have it worse.

My sympathies to folks anyone who are directly or indirectly affected by this.

My sympathy also to anyone with friends or relatives affected by the earthquake. Most of my family is in Hong Kong or Shanghai and everyone I know is safe.

Everyone please take care.

I agree with FLU that it gives one valuable perspective about how fortunate we are in light of the situation over there. There are our collective real estate/economy struggles, and then there are true life and death struggles. I feel for the folks in China, as well as those in Myanmar.

My cousin is traveling in country right now, but she is safe in Beijing.

My niece is living in Beijing, she said she felt the earthquake and the baby inside her felt it too and started kicking!

I'm glad all of your families are safe! If you want to donate to help earthquake victims one charity I've worked with is accef. They are non-profit, non-religious, tax deductible, and totally legit.

Thank you Nostradamus for bringing this up and being so sensitive to the severe crisis on the other side of the globe. It's times like these that we realize that the issues with finance, stock market, and housing are so trivial when others are losing their lives in such a terrible catastrophy. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to those who are living this nightmare and their loved ones. I too am glad to hear that our fellow bloggers families are safe!

Our sympathies and prayers go to those affected by the earthquake.
I know it's OT, California earthquake probabilities have been consistently high, just curious how many of you would purchase any earthquake insurance (with 10~15% deductible, for peace of mind)? I also wish FEMA would do a better job in reducing loss of life if such a terrible disaster happens here.

FWIW:

American Red Cross is responding to this disaster. So if you feel compelled, make a donation here.

Unfortunately, as generous as this country is, the Fed really doesn't have money to be giving out to other countries imho....But individuals like you and me might (Look at it this way, the $500 tax rebate that you received is probably going to end up in china anyway.. might as well be people who really need it :) )
