Chinese Drywall Possibly Effecting Newer Homes in SDUser Forum Topic

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090411/ap_o... I've searched other news articles and learned that major builders such as Lennar, Pulte and Standard Pacific have all been known to use Chinese Drywall during the housing boom of last few years. So far most of the complaints are concentrated in the Southeast, where heat and humidity accelerate the problem. Here in SD where it's dry, it could take years before homeowners find out. I live the Riverwalk community in Santee built by Standard Pacific. According to the sales rep, my community's drywall is made in USA. However I still plan to raise the issue to my HOA and to ask StanPac to issue an official letter confirming this. If you live in a home built in the past 5-8 years, I suggest you do a little investigation and seek confirmation from your builder as well.

Pkman,
This issue was mainly an issue that occured in new construction/reconstruction that occured Katrina. Basically, drywall was in short supply in the east coast, and what ended up happening was some of the builders went to an alternative source (overseas).
This has not been an issue here on the west coast (so far)...
But if your house starts stinking like a rotten egg, it might as well be.
Please note that the rotten egg smell is not the only issue and sometimes cannot be detected.
I have a home with Standard Pacific in Florida that IS tainted with Chinese Drywall. Based on their response, I highly doubt that they will give you any written confirmation that your home does not have it.
We started a community online for StanPac owners with Chinese Drywall. Feel free to go to http://toxicdrywall.blogspot.com and put in information on your community if you do have the Chinese Drywall. We need to help each other since the company isn't doing anything for us.
