Happened to go online to check out some 2008 Lexus R350. They are not cheap. I thought the economy is deteriorating and many ppl toss their cars to secure some cash. How come car price are still so expensive.

Some are retaining value, some are not. Take a look at most SUVS not named lexus or MB.

All american rides have dumped. 2007 Xc90s can be had cheaply. I have an 06 xc90 and even though I paid under invoice, Im still not getting even value (accept from the gap insurance estimate).

Deals to be had, just depends on your interest.

New, probably not....Depends a lot of make/model..

Used. Probably. Lexus RX's are about to get a lot cheaper, especially with the redesign around the corner too. :)

New Acura MDX's were being sold at firesale prices. a 2007-08 was selling well below 2004/05 prices.

Personally, not a big fan of the RX. Not that great driving dynamics for me, and Toyota likes to nickel and dime on every single option.

I think the Mdx is a great deal for what it's worth, and if you want to go cheaper, the Honda Pilot (though not a fan of the current generation styling). There's also the X5 which I dig, though reliability is always an issue. And Mazda CX7/CX9 is pretty good...

But that's my biased opinion.

Depend on your definition of "cheap". You can get a 2008 RX350 with relatively low mileage and 3+ year warranty (new + certified) for less than a fully loaded brand new Toyota RA4...and the RA4 is nowhere near as luxurious, plush or feature-loaded. Wouldn't you consider that a good deal? I would.

I'm shopping for a 2008 Acura TL based on the same logic that I can get a better certified car with comparable warranty service than a brand new Honda Accord.

Give it a little time. Lay-offs will keep coming. But the laid-off people have severance pay and then UI to help them. These things take time to play out. It's really just begun. I'm statrting to see many deals at the low-end of the economy car arena.

If you have never test driven or driven a RX series, you should really further evaluate the turning radius...flipping a U or backing out in a tight parking lot.

Thanks very much for helpful feedbacks. Where do you guys find deals to buy cars these days, online or onsite?

PKMAN, are you serious that a used RH is cheaper than a brand new RAV4? I am new to car search and I really need your help to find that deal.

Just go to:
www.edmunds.com
Find 2009 Toyota RAV4 and click on the most expensive version. Now check all the available options (just make sure you don't duplicate, as some options include others) and you'll see that it's $35K+.

The best place to search for certified used cars (make sure it's "Certified" so that it has extended manufacturing warranty) is www.autotrader.com.

I scoured Ebaymotors, cars.com and autotrader as well as used Edmunds when I was looking for a car for my wife back in September.

Was looking at Used TL's and found a 2006 with 19K miles for 20K (which included nav). I have a friend who works for Manheim look up the black book value and this price was under black book so bought it.

Deals are everywhere..

2009 New Car Sales Will Be Very Bad

Because shrewd shoppers like us are taking advantage of the current economic downturn and buying barely used certified luxury nameplates flooding the market with low mileage and excellent condition for less than their brand new common brand's brethren.

Lexus RX / Toyota Highlander
Acura TL / Honda Accord
Infiniti G35 / Nissan Altima

If you're in the market for a brand new Toyota, Honda or Nissan, don't bother! You can now buy the certified luxury version for less...possibly a lot less.

Used. Don't know. Never have nor will buy used.

New, I posted a way to get good deals via emailing dealers in L.a. Call up dealers in L.a.and ask for fleet sales or internet sales. L.a. Dealers usually do considerably better pricing than s.d.

I second the comment about the rx turn radius, or most toyota's for that matter. Also when I test drove the rx, the dynamics behaved more like a truck than a crossover cuv. Again the mdx had a much more car handling feel, especially with the new models have a sports package. The X5 rocks, but the sports package on it makes the ride too stiff for an cuv imho. The is suppose to be an M version of the x5.m don't know why, frankly

Fwiw

G35 is rwd, and not the same platform as the altima or maxima for that matter.

TL and accord don't share platforms. Completely different cars. Tsx and accord is the more likely comparo.

TL are going to be cheaper because again of the complete redesign.

In fact, I suspect the cars falling in massive value have less to do with the economy and more to do with model redesigns that are happening 09 (2010 model year) many car co are doing this probably to stimulate demand.

Indeed, G35 is rear-drive thus different platform as Altima. I made the wrong connection on that one.

However TL and Accord is based on the same platform. The same Accord platform also spun RL, MDX, Pilot and Odyssey. TSX is Accord in Europe and Japan it was deemed too small for the US market thus became TSX. I suspect TSX is based on the Civic platform, as the dimensions are similar and interior spaciousness, when I test-drove it, is downright identical (Civic owner for 6+ years).

In my case, I actually want the older Acuras, as I can't stand the stupid grin-face of the new TL/RL/TSX. I'm a big Honda/Acura supporter but if this is to be the future direction of all Acura, then I'll have to look elsewhere.

Don't like the snowplow grill that is the corporate acura symbol these day's eh? You're not alone.

Ah, I digress.
